Does anybody know whether there is a Cloth HEPA disposable bag available for the Compact Tristar canisters? Or if there is a way to make one? Have seen a thread recently that suggest modifying Simplicity Style F bags to work in Air-Way but don't know whether that could be done with Tristar due to the wide bag opening. Have also noticed there are open-top HEPA Cloth backpack vacuum cleaner bags, but those look to be too long. Thanks in advance for any suggestions or advice.

Well this is only what I've experienced is that with a (new) cloth bag for the compact/tristar it catches what little dust that gets through the 3 ply paper bag & when I take it out to shake it there is no dust blowing down wind. The new cloth bag seems to be made better then the original thin ones. As I'm sure someone else may disagree but this is just my reply. 😀

Mark, you say 3 ply paper bags? Are you using the Envirocare Tristar Micro-Filtration paper bags then? Or just the OEM or aftermarket Tristar plain paper bags? Have never heard of a 3 ply Tristar bag yet. And when you say "The new cloth bag seems to be made better then the original thin ones", are you SURE that your cloth bag isn't aftermarket? The original OEM Tristar cloth bag, since the 1980's & still the same today, the cloth bag looks EXACTLY like the Kevlar cloth bag material that Kirby used in the Generation series outer bag, the G4 & G5 models, but think they changed it slightly starting with the G6. Another perfect example of what it looks like is if you have ever seen a Panasonic Type U aftermarket Kevlar cloth shake-out bag, the OEM Tristar cloth bag looks EXACTLY like that. The OEM Tristar bag has a "quilted" texture to it, just like the Panasonic shake-out bag & Kirby outer bag. I am not doubting you at all, but to the untrained eye, it's very easy to mistake an aftermarket Tristar cloth bag for OEM.

In any case, my experience has been the opposite of yours, I have found the Tristar plain paper bags, whether OEM or aftermarket, do let a LOT of fine dust for the cloth bag & motor filter to catch, & have also found both the plain paper & Envirocare Micro-Filtration bags seem to clog quickly & lose power prematurely. Hence the reason I am thinking of trying to modify a HEPA Cloth bag to make it work.

For anyone else that may respond, please let me make this clear....I am NOT talking about replacing the permanent cloth bag. I am trying to replace the paper bag that fits inside the permanent cloth bag with a HEPA Cloth bag. If anyone else here does have experience doing that, & has any advice or suggestions to offer, please do respond to this thread.

Rob

I was talking about my Compact Electra it came with a thin cloth bag then I kitted it out with updated cloth bag ( to bring it up to today's standards ) like you said with material from a G4 outer bag & yes again the aftermarket paper bag works great & since there is no hepa on the exhaust port I open the flap & look inside also taking a white cloth & nothing dirty or black from the carbon brushes either. It must be filtering right for such a vintage machine.
