I just picked up a Hoover Concept 1 from the Goodwill. This will be my fourth Concept I've owned. Everything about it seems usual, so I was extremely surprised to see when I flipped it over that it has a metal chrome brushroll. I have never seen this before. Every Quadraflex I've ever seen in person or online has been black plastic. Is this something unusual to find or have I been living under a rock?

They never used plastic brushrolls on any concept. They were black painted metal, someone must have removed the black or was used in a sandy place and it wore off by default. Or hoover could've made a chrome one before the black painted steel ones.

ok, the first ones were chrome from 1978 till about 83 or so., some time in the early 80's they were coated. I don't know about any other machines that used this brushroll but I do know about the concepts.

also this model was among the first four models that were introduced in 1978. You can tell this one was early in production because the plate is blue

Hoover brush

I think the later versions of the Concept style with onboard hose & atts used a black plastic brush that could have also been used as replacements.

I have a concept with a chrome brush roll too, is yours the blue U3101? Thats the one I have, and the brush roll is most certainly chrome, and was made that way. Every on of that model that I've seen has the same brush roll as well.

Mine is painted metal, later model I think. Never saw one with hose or attachments onboard, sounds more like elite or legend
