Here a few thingies to check! wink

  • Be sure that the exhaust filter (if there is one) is clean. Try running the vacuum without it in place, check if suction is restored. It never hurts to blow-clean the filter with compressed air, or better, replace the filter!
  • The most common problem with other Electrolux cleaners is the cloth hose. Feel the suction at the input at the vacuum. If it is strong, your hose needs replacing. Alternatively, stick the hose onto the exhaust, and seal the nozzle with your hand. Feel the hose for any leaks.
  • Run the vacuum without a bag installed, check if suction is restored.
  • If none of the above fix the suction, your unit may have bad fans.

Good luck! wink

I would say

From you pictures it looks like tape around the hose at the machine end. As well as the Wand end. If this is so, a new hose sounds give you great suction. Along with all the repair you made to the machine !

oh, I know that feeling! it was a normal day when my Duo-Power canister showed up at KSSRC, sounding rough and uneasy. I tore into it, and nearly contemplating replacing the motor. I decided to rebuild the motor, something KSSRC had never attempted before, this was before KSSRC was even a thing! All that bearing needed was a touch of oil, and after blowing the fuse thanks to incorrect wiring, the motor breathed life back into itself! Today the legendary Duo-Power  continues to putter along, leaving no mess un-touched! laughing

Ball bearings require grease! NEVER use oil on them!!! Only oil Sleave bearings.

You can replace the bearings on that motor, top bearing is a sleeve and bottom a ball bearing, both of which can be replaced. I just hope they didn't get hot to the point where they basically welded themselves to the armature.

Hello , i don't think the bearing are in that bad of shape but upon closer inspection the wiring is rather brittle and weak and i'm thinking to be safe i'm going to replace the whole motor and wiring all together .

If the motor was screeching then the bearings need attention.

If you do decide to replace the motor, I know of a dealer in Ontario that has a NEW Electrolux 89 motor. This is the same motor that is in your 86 now. If you would like his contact info, send an email to the email address in my profile.

This model really intrigues me. If I'm not mistaken, it was only sold in Canada, not in the US, right? It's a weird middle model. It's shaped and styled like the models that came before it (E, G), but the bag compartment is on its side like the upcoming 1205. In the Electrolux evolution chart, this model bridges the gap between the old and the new.
