Here is the web site for the conference. It doesn't say much, but I'll bet this is when they will roll out the new model, if there is one.

Hmmm...

It would be rather cool if the new model's name was Evolution!

"and celebrating a new model with expanded capabilities"

So there will be a new model! I think the most interesting part though is where they say:
Now is the time to break old habits that may be holding us back and to reconnect with these tried and true practices.

Bagless, door to door, retail, cost?

I am sort of bettin the new machine will BE--EVOLUTION!!You have to wear your suit and tie to see it.Thanks-but no thanks will just wait for them to call on me-they will come!!!They always do when a new one comes out-and the salesman brags I am the first to buy it.I certainly hope its NOT bagless-if it has to be-at least a dump bag.If it is a bagless bin machine--won't buy no matter how evolved it is!Guess I will have to ask the salesman for the matching dirtmeter and proof book!

IIRC, one of the prototype names was the Avalier. I had seen a technical drawing on here that showed the cleaner having the bag at the rear and for the first time since the elusive "R" series a switch in the handle!

If they make it bagless, Jim Kirby would turn over in his grave.

I'm hoping it's a retro-throwback to the 500-DS 80 models!

Backwards is the new forwards! Kirby needs to shed the pounds, the weight and cost of the machine are the two big reasons why people don't buy Kirby! Less weight = less manufacturing costs, too! A model based off the 500 series would be an excellent work-around for this! laughing

The new Kirby

kirbyloverdan's profile picture
Will be lighter but the past is gone and Kirby's new machine is the future sorry the 500 series would NEVER sell to the public look at Royal metal they are down to one model for the household version .
People see that style and say wow what a cool antique vacuum retro is done .

Retro is making a comeback, Especially due to   those darn hipsters!! tongue-out

A sleeker, modernized 500 series with LED lights and modern stuff would be interesting!

If they could do 2 things...

Put it on a diet, if it weighed about what a D-50 or D-80 did, and was as small as they were...but still was metal, and still self propelled! then they would have something, but most women hate them because of the size and weight..for a great big open area they are wonderful, but if you have stairs and or you have any strength issues...forget it!

I'd like to see a retro-throwback to the 560-Tradition models--the groovy '60s and '70s--but I agree that retro is not in Kirby's mindset.

Post# 298487 , Reply# 19   9/15/2014 at 20:59 (3,482 days old) by jscarlato (Clairton, PA)

I would like to see a nice red color for the new model. If Kirby repeats the striking blue color of the Tradition, I wouldn't mind that, either. Whatever the case, you betcha the new model is already signed, sealed, and almost delivered.

Without a doubt, "Quality, Reliability, Performance" has been the hallmark of our Kirby vacuums. One thing I admire is that Kirby offers THE model, top of the line, no step-down models beneath the signature model. To the contrary, take a look at the Hoover website and count the number of models they market in a year at the same time. A lot of plastic has been used up in their production.

I have various Kirbys in my collection, with the Sentria being my current daily driver. I predict that Kirby will turn a corner with it's new model. Despite any design changes in it's "evolution," it will maintain the Kirby tradition of being a quality machine. We can guess as much as we want, but time will tell if we'll be attracted to the new model. Just in case, I have a new Sentria II waiting in the box.

The Sentrias have

Plastic parts and the new Kirby will use even more plastic .
There is NOTHING wrong with plastic it's strong yet light weight .

I hope they don't use more plastic. They should more die cast Aluminum just my opinion and very little plastic.

If they are going to use more plastic on their latest model, then I will buy every remaining "classic" Dual Sanitronic 80 and Classic III replacement part that I can.

But then it would clash with SEBO, whose new commercial upright is called Evolution

Kirby uses only...

The highest grade of high performance polycarbonate in the Sentria and Sentria II baseplate and handle which is not only lighter, but stronger than the aluminum used in previous models. This polycarbonate is similar to the Amodel used to make the new white fans which have proven to be superior to the old aluminum fans.

One wonders if Kirby or any other vacuum cleaner company employs the type of research discussed in this 1960 film presented by Corning Glass Works and narrated by former co-anchor, Chet Huntley, who with David Brinkley hosted NBC-TV's "The Huntley-Brinkley Report" from 1956-1970?

If so, I wonder what most consumers would want in style, safety, and utility--not just collectors or enthusiasts?

So visited my local Kirby Distributor today. Showed me something interesting, on their recent order the floor care kits where a different color. Black dark grey and silver. So there is a new Kirby coming but makes you wonder if there's gonna be "huge" changes. Of course we didn't open the box up, but didn't look any different then Sentria 2, just different colors. Also no new name on the box just say Kirby.

Kirby plastics are top-notch, but too much plastic will destroy the Kirbys' claim to fame! There's a huge gap between Kirby plastics and Hoover plastics (not saying the newer Hoover plastics are terrible, they're decent for the money!).

RE video!

Did you all see that housewares dept..Can you IMAGINE actually going into a store and having that merchandise to choose from...I saw Westinghouse and Sunbeam mixers!!!Nowdays all we have to choose from is imitation Sunbeam Hamilton Beach and GE, most made in China, and Kitchenaid that does NOT say HOBART on it...its really sad to see how far backward we have gone..I do hope Kirby keeps its quality up and doesent go down the road of Hoover and Eureka!..oh to be able to buy a new Convertible or Eureka 260!
