My dad picked this up for me today for only $5.09. I clean it up tomorrow afternoon. More pictures to come. Does anyone know what model this is? I forgot to look.

It's a lower-tier model from, I believe, the mid 1970s. The model number is on a serial number sticker on the bottom of the motor housing.

Very nice! That model is from 1976 or later.

This Eureka...

Is a 1425B. I will probably buy my Sanitaire a new motor, and put the old motor into this machine. I will also be getting it a Vibragroomer II, and probably a new fan.

Good score, but who prices a vintage Eureka at $5.09? tongue-out

GO GO GO GO...

GOODWILL!!!

Some of the older members may remember Goodyear tire commercials in the sixties with the slogan "GO GO GO GO GOODYEAR! This is an allusion to that advertising campaign.

I got this vacuum cleaned up today. I put in a brand new F&G bag (obviously), cleaned all the dust out and replaced a broken cord hook. BUT--There's more to this vacuum than meets the eye. I TRIPLED the performance of this vacuum. I installed a SANITAIRE 7 amp motor from a machine that was in really bad shape, installed a VGII beater, and replaced the plastic push switch with the metal one from the Sanitaire. If you were to use this vacuum, and thought that it still has the dainty 3.5 amp motor, you've got another thing coming. This vacuum packs a powerful punch in a discrete package.

He knows....

He's just in denial! You have a nice collection started there, watch out, they multiply you know! You turned a rather mediocre vacuum of it's time, into a real cleaning machine...nice job!

That 3.5 amp motor...

Never did float my boat. It's so underpowered! I'm eventually going to get Sanitaire motors and VGII beater bars for all my Eureka convertibles. I remember once, I used a 3.5 amp Eureka equipped with a VGII on a thick shag carpet, and it was hopeless. Even on the highest setting (it only had 2 settings) it bogged down so bad. I eventually gave up on that.

This is just to make John happy, I know all this Eureka talk is driving him crazy.

I love amping up vacuums! That 7 amp pancake motor is real beast. It does an excellent job of drawing carpet into the nozzle, while also creating tons of airflow for a thorough cleaning job.

But I like that little 3.5 amp motor too! Sometimes I think that 7 amp motor may be overkill!

Overkill???

I think the 3.5 amp motor would be good for low pile carpet that does not need deep cleaning. But it's worse than useless on all my shag and deep plush carpeting! I still have a 3.5 amp motor in the blue hood and green base Eurekas in picture No.3, and they don't even phase the shag carpet out in the hallway. For that carpet, you need all ~800 watts of that raw Eureka power!!

Our golden Eureka Cordaway 2083 from 1974 did a great job on our deep shag rugs. The Rugulator allowed us to set the nozzle nice and high, and it deep cleaned beautifully with its Vibra-Groomer One brush roll.

And I don't think its motor was rated any higher than 3.5 amps. We had deep shag carpeting in our den and our guest room and it performed beautifully.
