I lucked out on a Lux Model L today -the turquoise version made from 1968 to 1973. It's in really good shape so far as the motor and other electrical components are concerned, and it was all of $10. So that's good. Plus I already have a set of tools and a PN-1 and a hose for it. Nice when that happens!

What is not so good is that the paint is badly damaged on either side, on the ridge where the "Electrolux" logo is impressed. It's way too much damage for touching-up, so a repaint is in order. It looks like the unit was repeatedly dragged too close to something very rough, like a brick wall. It's all the way down to bare metal; this is not a simple set of scratches.

Does anyone know of a turquoise paint that is close? I know about having it matched exactly, etc., but if there is a stock shade that will work, I'd be grateful to have a cheaper option than matching.

Thanks in advance for any help -

I have used a color called Chrysler Green, it is an engine color for Chrysler, it matches pretty close.

Wow!

Well, THAT was easy.

A check on Google shows that O'Reilly Auto Parts carries it from Dupli-Color. There's an O'Reilly right around the corner from me.

I know what I'm going to go and look at tomorrow!

Thanks!

I went to a hobby store with my Model L once and found the color *teal* more closely matched the paint rather than *turquoise*--which is a lighter and typically greener color. Another thought would be to check with an auto body shop.

This is how one artist described the colors in the blue-green family:

"Teal is a dark blue-green. Turquoise is a lighter version of teal. Aqua is even lighter and little greener than the other two."

To connect this definition, then, with vacuum cleaner colors on the "aqua-marine green" (actual paint color) Model Gs:

*Aqua* would most resemble the body, *teal* would most resemble the trim and wheels, and *turquoise* would most resemble the main hose color. Do consider, however, there are different shades and tints of each hue.

Hope this helps.

Oh - One More Question:

Anyone know who still carries those aftermarket PN cords that strap onto the vac hose?

I recently found a very minty Electrolux non-electrified hose - the same grey vinyl as current electrified hoses, just not electrified. And I also lucked into a set of grey hose cord straps on eBay.

But the PN cord isn't as available as it used to be. Anyone know of a source? I don't want to spend the money for a genuine Aerus pigtail hose for this machine, and I don't want to put an aftermarket pigtail hose on it. The reason for that is that the pigtail's plug on an aftermarket hose is not a right-angle plug the way it is on a real Aerus hose - it sticks straight out and is vulnerable to damage that can break the pins. With a PN cord, that's not too expensive. On a pigtail hose, it's a lot of money down the drain.

Again, thanks in advance.

I don't think new ones are available. In that case I would suggest that you check with local vacuum cleaner stores to see if they have any used ones obtained through trade-ins. They also appear infrequently on online auction sites.
