I ran into a Kirby Dual Sanatronic 50 from the original owner with manual, all boxes, handi bulter, floor polisher, shampooer etc for 25 bucks. Is that a good price for an old machine? Looked pretty nice, its my old neighbor who is selling her house and going into a retirement assisted living. She bought it new and it has all paperwork and the boxes everything came in.

They don't come any better than that! You thought about it long enough, now go over there and get it, before she changes her mind!

Well, I went over there and picked it up, 25 bucks for the whole thing. She gave me the manual, sales receipt, Kirby folder it came in etc. The Shampooer was still in plastic in the box, it had never been used, neither had the grinder tool, the other head with brushes on it, was in the box in plastic as well, never used. Infact it was still rather shiny. She didn't use it hardly as she had a maid service and they brought their own tools to clean with. I opened it up and there wasn't any dirt in the bag even! But the zipper part had a small bottle of air freshener in it still. Might give it to my nephew and his wife for their new house.

I might try to get you guys some pics of it. I never really owned a Kirby, with the exception of my Grandparents Wireless Vacuette they bought new.

That would be a wonderful gift for your nephew and his wife. I would just encourage you to let them know of its value, so they take good care of it. In addition, let them know that its attachments can be very useful around their home--including the Miracle Head (floor polisher), Rug Renovator (shampooer), and the Handi-Butler (grinder); not to mention the attachments. There are some helpful Kirby videos on Youtube--mostly of newer models but nonetheless illustrative of the versatility of a Kirby system.

I do wonder if it would be better to ask them of their interest in a vintage vacuum cleaner before you gift it. Most, if not all, contributors to this forum appreciate the craftsmanship and style of classic cleaners but others do not--neither is right or wrong but a matter of personal preference. If your nephew and his wife are of the latter ilk they will either end up storing it (perhaps carelessly) or allowing it to be treated as a disposable item like many of the current line of vacuum cleaners.

You've made a sound investment to be sure. Congratulations!
