Not totally certain

but I suspect this cleaner was manufactured for the independent retail supply chain. The black rigid hose and looped handle came after the "new" range of Sensotronic cleaners were put into production around 1984 (first models had a stretch hose), these being the models with two larger separate foot pedals. Thus, despite the older design of console and single, long foot-pedal, I would say this is post 1985. What a find it is!

One more thought

I have just seen a Panasonic cleaner of yours on ebay, I found it by mistake as the photograph is of this Hoover. It has a 2-pin plug, meaning that you have acquired a cleaner destined for the non-UK market. Is there a plug on the Hoover too? If there is and it's not a UK 3-pin plug, that cleaner too would have not been made for the UK.

I didn't check the plug, I am in the other store today so will do so tomorrow....
However all instructions and guarantee cards were in English only.

All of my other cleaners have been UK models.

The photos of the Panasonic are not pictures of the actual cleaner. The seller has search the internet for photos of this model and uploaded them in the auction to show what the machine looks like. I think it would be better to remove the Panasonic from the battered box and photo the actual contents, because I'm not sure if the model being sold has the turbo head that's illustrated.

The link to the original listing is below.

Was the Sensotronic a model sold in the US? It looks interesting.

Not that I know of,D.T, but we got some AWESOME Hoover canisters in the 80s and 90s!

It is surprising to me. My Hoover upright is simply awful, a piece of junk. There is not one thing about it I can commend. But some of the Hoover canisters like this Sensotronic, the Futura and the Dimension 1000 look to be very well made pieces of equipment and perhaps something I will collect in the not too distant future (you might be surprised what I'm watching on ebay!). btw, is the Dimension 1000 a relative of that Sensotronic?

You can say the Dimension 1000 is the Sensotronic's American cousin!tongue-out

I absolutely LOVE my Dimension 1000, you can have enough power to suck chrome off a  chrome turtle, and be able to chat with Charmane on the kitchen extension at the same time! The Dimension 1000s are getting rare, if only Hoover made a modern, BAGGED Dimension! tongue-out

Extension phones? My aren't we retro! A slimline touch tone no doubt, lol.

Soon enough vacs will have a USB charging port for the users smart phone, and the abilty to control the vac from the smart phone.

Now you have me thinking about the Dimension 1000. There is one on ebay right now.

Haha,I DO have a dial-tone phone in the kitchen, in BROWN! It's not a slimline, but it is a wall-phone! But one day....tongue-out
