After vacuuming every room, everyday with the convertible for two weeks straight. I have managed to fill up two bags of dirt. Also today the cleaning lady's showed up and the fusion took a devistating loss when it only ended up having about 2-4 centimeters of dirt in its bin, compared to what it usually has after they are done. I am sure you guys have heard this a billion times, but how about a billion and one. The convertible is the best, most reliable, simplest vacuum ever made. I am truly a believer now.

You are right...the Convertible is one of the easiest machines to use...they do what they were designed to do, clean carpet. Unlike all of this new stuff, a Convertible will last for years!

you are too right I have one from the 70s and it is all original even the carbon brushes they will work for years. I'll bet that 70 years from now when we are pushing up dasies those convertables will still be running

I'll vote for the Convertible as well-stupid move that Hoover discontinued the machine-their BEST!I bought a 1070 model at a yard sale for 3 bucks-one of my favorite machines with Kirby,Royal and Riccar.Just recently got a Hoover plastic "Guardian" from the vac shop out here-was a trade in towards a Carpet Pro.Carpet Pro is a Tacony company-along with Riccar. The Guardian isn't nearly as nice as my older Convertible. It works pretty good though-and was in great shape-had little use.The dirt cup and bag were pretty clean and not stinky.Came from a church.Just needed a new belt.Guardians are now the closest new Hoover machines that are like Converetibles.

CONVERTIBLES RULE!

Yes indeed, the convertible was and is a triumph of Hoover!
I find it nothing short of amazing that the Hoover Upright Vacumm had changed so very little in fundamental functional design from essentially its earliest incarnation, and certainly from its next genration around 1920 until that plastic brainchild called the Elite in the early 1990's. The tried and true concept of a vertical motor with fan underneath turning a horizontal brush-roll (with a half-twist of the belt) sucking loosened dirt and catapulting it into a waiting bag was essentially as solid a concept as the internal combustion engine! The ensuing variations simply fine-tuned the motor, fan technology, beater bar addition, vehicle, and bag technology. (OK, and the plug!!) But the original concept had an enviable run and its approximations by other manufacturers just confirmed this!! (IMITATION IS THE SINCEREST FORM OF FLATTERY!!) Hoover is king of the uprights!!
