Hi I was wondering if this series was the biggest Mieles ever made and did they make 2000w? I have never seen one in action or on YouTube. Anyone in the forum own one?

We have a Cat & Dog Deluxe, bought it in 2009 still going very strong and it goes up to 2200 Watt.

Does not look exactly like your pic but almost.

Have a look at this thread where one of the UK members bought an S600 Revolution. Or click the link.

www.vacuumland.org/cgi-bin/TD/TD-...

The XXL versions go from model numbers S812 to S849. There's actually a second hand 2300 Miele S749 going on EBAY UK at the moment. (Item 221485565172)

I can only assume that if Miele made an "Xtra Power" S800, it would probably have had the same 2300 watt version as the S749.

Sad to see such an expensive and well made device, whether a car, a motorcycle, a wristwatch, a vacuum or fine furniture, treated so carelessly. Look how hammered that poor vacuum is. You pay that much money for something then abuse it. I just don't understand.

I have seen worse, but at least the body is intact...

Well.....

That's what average Joe does with their vacuums, or the average vacuum cleaner owner.

And....

That model in question was released around 2003, 2004, so... its pretty old. I know collectors would have it looking fantastic but collectors and average owners are not the same.

The state of many vacuums that have been "abusively" used is of course subjective to the amount of abuse it has received. Commercial vacs like Numatic Henry or SEBO go for ages, and even if that old Miele may have its motor intact, I've seen worse.

Believe me Sebo_fan, my parents only looked at a vacuum as an appliance, there was never a thought of collecting them and we only had three in memory (two of which I now have) but they never abused them. They cost money and money always required work to come by.

I agree with that, but vacuum cleaners then aren't built the same way as they are now, and you know that all too well from your previous conversations.

However, to Miele's credit, even though the pic I provided came from a seller on EBAY UK whose actual model has parts that have failed, I wouldn't expect a vacuum cleaner from the same period as the Miele to last that long.

That Miele, like so many others where they may be listed on EBay can be made to look brand new. Owners won't bother dusting it, polishing it or even giving viewable exterior parts a darn good rub down. It is a vacuum cleaner, not a crystal glass ornament to be admired.

Sorry for the late reply. I have seen some of the more powerful models of the S600 -800 on German eBay. They are very rare but not so long bag there was a 2000watt Miele Blue Moon Plus which I can imagine would be a collectors item. I think the large Miele was one of the best looking vacuums around!

Gosh, you took your time...

In the UK there are still late Miele models being sold with 2200 watts or even 2000 watts. Old stock it seems before the EU law came in.

Yeah I have seen a lot of the old stock S8 and S5 but the S500-800 models are much more rarer and in my opinion better built. There are some rarer models that float on eBay Germany.

They are not so rare though. I suspect that they are old stock. Miele re-released both the S700 and S500 at least two to three years before the new EU law came in; so it stands to reason that a lot are floating around on auction sites. Its a good bargain for those in the know, but some sellers are pricing so astronomically high that buyers will look at the lesser powerful ones.

I largely buy based on pricing with Miele vacuums in the UK. We are reasonably lucky that we don't have the same kind of spec by spec set up as the U.S market has. Whilst certain models are tagged with expensive floor head choices, Miele UK have made a lot of those tools and floor heads cost optional, so you can really custom build your vacuum to your own spec and without costing all that much.

When I owned my S4 and S5 models with 2000 and 2200 watts, I barely noticed a difference with my S8340 Ecoline (it has a 1200 watt motor). If anything, the 1200watt motor is a bit noisier in the lower end of speeds compared to the 2000 or more watts, but I think it may well be a very individual thing - end of the day, the 1200 Ecoline in my opinion picks up just as much dirt as the older 2000/2200 watt models.

The S500/700 and even S300 models are heavier because they are better built but I think Miele have made leaps and bounds with the S8, too.

I agree I prefer the older models post S5 as they look more solidly built and they are also quieter.

There is perhaps a reason for the quieter motors that is a bit too obvious than actual mounting and insulation. I noticed my S8 Eco was far louder than usual when the Super Air Clean filter was added as opposed to the AAC type cartridge. Miele sent out the replacement black pad that acts as a sound insulation pad before the grille on the front of the machine and the filter inside. Without it, the motor is a touch noisier as well as a slight whistle that emerges from the grille. The felt pad is supposed to be removed when the higher grade filters are added.
