I feel like I am nearly being paid by vax to advertise their new products but you gotta admit, some of them look pretty impressive.
The Hoover air cordless vacuum has been in the states now for only a few weeks. Looks like it has arrived on our shores in the form of a Vax, of course no surprise their. Thanks TTI. I am a little sceptical though. There is a video review of the hoover version by someone who had bought one and he said that it does lack quite a bit in suction power and isn't really a replacement for a corded machine. Whether this is true or not, no one knows. Video to that is here - |

He sounds a bit annoyed that the vacuum doesn't come with a full size hose. You can't please everyone.
I am however very impressed with how quiet that Hoover sounds. It isn't as noisy as my old orange Vax Mach Air. I still have the extension hose from that vacuum... Which, basically means if I ever buy this cordless upright I could use the extension hose onto the back of the one on board. |

I don't think cordless vacuums are any kind of replacement for a full upright. Based on using the GTech AirRam and Dyson Digital Slim, they're brilliant as far as stick vacs go, but not go great in comparison to a full upright. Great for quick pick ups and day to day cleaning, not so great for full cleaning.

I bought one the day they came out. It's true, it does not have as much suction as a corded vacuum, however the brush is so aggressive that it does not require tremendous amounts of suction to remove the dirt that the brush roll sweeps up and beats out of the carpet. It's actually a very good upright on bare floors as well

This is the amount of dirt and border collie hair that the Hoover air cordless removed from my carpet directly after the carpet was vacuumed with a Kirby Sentria.

must have a full bag or a worn brushroll, or something else is wrong.
My Sentria is a Beast!!! It outcleans every other vacuum I have including my Hoover Windtunnel Air which has a very aggressive brushroll and more suction than the Air Cordless.
Does your Sentria have the newer more aggressive brushroll? |

My Sentria has only been used three times. It's part of the Vacuum Cleaner Museum's Kirby collection. I don't care too much for Kirby (one of my least favorite vacs to use), but I brought it home to give it 'another try'. Same day the Hoover Air Cordless arrived. I'm always bringing home vacs from the Museum's collection to use in my home. The Hoover Air's brush roller is designed EXACTLY like the Hoover model 2's brush roller from 1910 that we also have in the Museum. The brush pattern is an exact copy. The brush bristles are long, but flexible, and really give the rug a good beating, while they are sweeping. The suction is enough to carry away the dirt. I hold my Air while using the dusting brush. The Air's hose is short, but that's not really what the machine is for. It's for the rugs and bare floors. It's the best upright I've ever used for bare floor cleaning WHILE the brush is running.

True, cordless uprights can never replace the idea of a mains corded vacuum, but it is a good alternative to many.
Being the owner of a Gtech cordless sweeper, the next step up I would have is any cordless stick vacuum, preferably with a hose or a slip out hand held, like the Ergorapido by Electrolux/AEG. When you think about it, with cordless sweepers or stick vacuums available, granted the batteries on most current models now feature longer lasting lithium, they're not that expensive to run or to charge IF you still use your mains vacuum. |

Hi Roger I must say I do love your videos some of them are just so funny.it's great that VAX has sent it to you to review. Hopefully more manufacturers will send you some new vacuums. One thing I want VAX to release in uk is hoover air steerable that looks like a really good vacuum and keep the video coming
