I have a couple of old 1980's vintage Kenmore canister vacuums in regular use that use the Type E bag. This type of bag requires a removable adapter with a tapered spout that pokes through a small rubber sealed opening in the vacuum bag. The other end of the adapter has a flat plate that slides into the recepticle on the vacuum much the same way the cardboard endplate on the later C and O style bags slides into the bag adapter on a modern Kenmore vacuum.

Nobody that I'm aware of offers a Type E bag, also called 5023 or 5033, in a cloth HEPA material. My fiancee has horrible allergies. I have seen some HEPA vacuum bags for modern Simplicity and Riccar canister vacuums that appear to have the identical rubber seal in the bag opening. Has anyone ever tried using these in a Kenmore from the 1980's instead of the Type E bag?
