I was on the hunt for a Kirby but all I found was an overpriced Electrolux and a Rexair Rainbow Model D...

It was priced at $40, but I didn't really want it. I'm not a fan of canisters... Still, I probably should have picked this up anyway. It's in beautiful condition and I have a slight soft spot for Rainbows...

The attachments.

I should have gotten a better picture of these... But there was the hardfloor tool, straight tube, curved tube, and the suction control tube.

The from has a duster brush, Shampoo gun without the basin, crevice tool, upholstery tool, and something else I can't quite remember.

Here's the box the Rainbow fit in (I suppose the attachments and vacuum box were put in a larger box when the salesman went D2D?)

Unfortunately it didn't contain a hose and has been defaced by XMAS.

Will,

The model D could be converted to accept a power nozzle (a feature introduced with the D2, which was released in 1974) but I understand why you don't want it - you're really looking for another Kirby.

Yeah, I knew it could be switched over to accept the D2 power nozzle, but I need to work on my D3C before I even think about owning another Rexair machine.

It's in such shambles right now. I need to put the $60 in to it and make it a beautiful machine.

"--were put in larger box--"

This would be a great vac at a good price for a Rexair collector.Any missing parts would be easier to find than the rarely seen vacuum box and the tool caddy that still has good handle!
These WERE the boxes for the DTD salesman. The vacuum on the water pan fit in the larger box and the hoses and atts were in the unfolded tool caddy with a rectangular lid on it.(The wheel dolly was optional at that time.)
A demo of the Rainbow,or other DTD canister, might start with the vac coming out of large box and talk of quality and air filtering for a healthy home. The the atts would be added and the housewife would be shown that while it was filtering the air she could also use her home sanitation system like a vacuum cleaner.
After the Rainbow sale the attachment box would be folded and the halves locked together with the lid usually being discarded.

That's a 1956 model D Rexair. You should have bought it.

If it's there in a week, I'll go pick it up.

It's in the way back of the mall on the side that people don't start on so I think I'll be good.

I think I'm starting to get really picky.

In the past two days I've passed up an Electrolux model G for $10, a Hoover Constellation (somewhere in the early 50's) it had the hose going straight into the top for $5, a Hoover Portable (the one that folds up like a suitcase) for $5, a GE swivel top canister for $4 and a Hoover model 65 or 68 Convertable, I don't even remember the price on that one.

ultralux88, I will if it's still there next week.

Bikerray, I'm getting kind of picky too. Though, I've always been picky with my vacuums.

beerad, I have no idea how the motor runs. You really can't test anything at this antique mall...

Ultralux88, I have no idea if it's still there (though, I'd presume it's still there.) I don't have any money to go get it anymore as I'm completely refurnishing my loft which includes buying a lot of A/V equipment...

So if you want to make the hour or so trip to go get it, then it's at the Brass Armadillo Antique Mall

11301 W. I-70 Frontage Rd.
Wheat Ridge, CO 80033

When you enter, you'd walk all the way to the left side of the mall, and travel down the first row of stuff to the back. It should be there plus an overpriced Electrolux for $90.

I would rather you get it then some else as I know you will take care of the machine.

Ok, I'll go up there soon as I get a chance to. I thought it might be that store, it's not too far from where we lived when we lived up in Arvada. We lived near 64th and Ward Rd.
