On a previous post I addressed the tearing down of my Kirby heritage mid way I stripped out a few screw heads and havint touched it since. On a related note today I got to lookin at the Kirby classic noticed it had many flat heads instead of Philips. I couldint possibly strip a head I thought to my self. Wrong! Before I even got into the casing I totally Mushroomed the entire head. Now many have told me to drill it out as I will review that thread later tonight. What are some tips not already giving to prevent striping the heads and is this a common obstacle any of you have faces all comments and advice is appreciated I've learned alot about these machines through owning them and really wanna get inside the beast clean it up and just learn through doing

Without seeing them I wonder if your drivers either have dull tips, or they're too small? I had a similar experience with my drivers, but I didn't strip the screw heads; I just kept trying different drivers until I found one that worked. So it may be time for you to invest in some new drivers.

What I do with stuck screws

Get a power drill and an appropriately sized bit. Put your entire body weight onto the drill and make certain it is in reverse. Squeeze the trigger. Screw will come out. Make sure your bits are SHARP, and LARGE enough to grip that particular screw. If you find that a certain bit won't work because it is too small or too big, STOP! Try another bit. If the bit slips in the screw, DON'T TRY AGAIN!
