Hello,

Today I unboxed a new Hetty vacuum cleaner and found something extra inside the box.

It was a nice surprise and unexpected because this addition was not advertised or illustrated on the box.

Click on the video link to see what it was.

Very Nice Surprise

I would be very happy if more vacuums included a surprise like that (not gonna spoil it for people who haven't seen the video).

Mine didn't either. Be careful with the HVR200A, they had issues with the Autosave boards burning out, and rendering the cleaner unusable. The cooling for the board was insufficient being located in the exhaust air flow duct. They modified them on current models though, removing the Autosave feature, and having the cleaner as a single speed with 580W motor. John and Lewis are both the current models. The Autosave models are no longer produced, and once old stocks run out that's it for the 1200W models. They have been consigned to the dustbin of history, along with high wattage lightbulbs thanks to the EU bureaucrats.

Oh my god I don't even know. May I ask where did you get information from Did it affect all the autosave models. Do you know when they're Going to be doing the new Models. There's one thing I am not liking about new models Is is a fixed speed I like to control the speed like the models now

Post# 283301 , Reply# 5   6/5/2014 at 13:08 (3,611 days old) by MadAboutHoovers ()

They already are doing the new models - John and Lewis are both the new models, using the HiFlo 580W single speed motors, and WesselWerk style floorheads with integrated roller wheel.

Most of the earlier model HVR200A models had a flawed design of Autosave circuit board. This board can fail, which means the vacuum wont run at all. Later models had an updated board fitted, and you can buy the updated board to replace burnt out ones. Its hit and miss whether your HVR200A will burn out, and I think that most of the problems came from people using them all the time on the LO setting, and the board's heat sink getting insufficient cooling, coupled with the board's circuitry getting covered with conductive carbon dust from the machine's unfiltered exhaust.

I would say that my Hetty is a late model due to the redesigned box and the additional surprise extra I got packed inside the box. It's good for above floor cleaning and hard floors, but very hard work on carpets, even at the lower power setting. I think a turbo brush is a must for carpets, so I may get one or buy a Henry Extra or one of the John Lewis exclusives.

Argos

Have for many years had a stair-cleaning hose included with their Henry and Hetty cleaners. They used to say so in the catalouge at one time. Only Argos though.

Yes, Roger, the Airobrush makes a massive difference on carpet - so much easier to push around and better for removing Daisy's dog hairs! At the cost of noise though - its still a cheaper head to buy than the Miele or SEBO turbo brushes, but not as good quality. This was where I ordered mine from:

If I get the turbobrush it will have to be the black version as red would clash with Hetty. I guess the turbo brush from my Maytag Satellite will fit.

I don't know why Argos don't advertise the stair hose if they are the only retailer to offer it as it's a good selling point. Looking at the reviews on the Argos website I see that some reviewers do mention a stair hose.

Argos are hopeless at advertising anything they sell, and frequently get product information wrong. Their website often leaves a lot to be desired. Pay peanuts, get monkeys.

Funnily enough we had the same convo on the FB group, Roger, which is a darn shame that you are not a member of.

Actually the Airobrush by Numatic is pretty good and I don't find it any noisier than Miele's or SEBO's similarly designed tool. I owned one for many years (black version) and sold it off when I sold off my James model. It is made by Wessel Werk and was also produced for Electrolux and Hoover.

The other one I like is the Hoover J5. It has an air valve opening on the underside and a pivot at the front which is great for cleaning even when the suction tubes are at their most upright.

It was originally equipped with the Hoover Telios Pets model and other variants with 32mm measurement.

It is a real pity Hoover don't sell them any more for the original retail price of £14-99.

As for less suction, don't forget the air valve at the top of the handle - I used to use mine all the time with the single 800 watt James.

Facebook group

I keep hearing about this Facebook group but I don't know what it's called. I tried to join two vacuum collectors groups but my requests were ignored, so I withdrew them.

Cool video, I enjoyed it & great surprise, I'd be pleased with that.

I have an Autosave Henry & a new John. I like the Henry but the John is in my opinion far superior, the new floor tool is great & works really well & isn't hard work like the old tool was on carpets. The new motor is also quieter & I prefer one speed (with cool red power light)to the gimmicky Autosave stuff. The new model actually "feels" more powerful/ efficient.

Having said all that your new Hetty is very cute - I hope you have fun with her !

Cheers

Dave

Roger, it's a great group. It's a little more personal than being on here, because you can see who you're talking to. I believe Narayan has sent you the link to it?

Back on topic, I believe that my sister's Hetty also came with that little surprise, but she has since lost it. Typical.

Great Video, as always Roger.

I believe my Auntie's 2008 Henry came with the extra hose as well - but I haven't seen one since. I think Numatic should supply it anyway because it means you can leave the vacuum at the bottom of the stairs & get to the top - something a lot of people like to have as a feature.

I have one of those hoses somewhere & it is very useful.

" I think Numatic should supply it anyway "

I doubt they ever will, more likely this is the "Argos Incentive". As I said, Argos always used to say there was a stair-hose, indeed going so far as to point out it was an ensemble exclusive to them.

Im unsure whether Numatic need to put another freebie like an extra hose. If you buy the Henry or Hetty model doesn't it come with the standard 2.5 metre hose anyway? Sledge style vacuums at the most (discounting certain SEBO cylinder that come with 2.1 metre) either measure 1.5 metres to 1.8 metres.

Put simply, you'd still get a bargain longer reach hose if you buy a standard Henry vacuum.

Or course I can see the benefit of an added hose, but at the same time, I found the 2.5 metre hose is long enough for most homes. As an ex-James owner, I found the smaller hose was more than acceptable at times, even though the 2.5 metre version continually used to bang off the doors in my home

The standard Numatic hose is longer than average, but still not long enough to reach the top of the stairs. A common complaint about Henry is that he doesn't sit on stairs particularly well, and must either be stabilised with one's knee or carried in the other hand. This additional hose solves the issue by allowing you to leave the cleaner on the ground as you work your way up. It probably isn't essential, but I'm sure it's appreciated by many. Argos really ought to point out that they have this bonus as an exclusive, because I'm sure many customers would consider it far more useful than the Henry branded shopping tote or beach ball (?!) that they would have received by purchasing the cleaner elsewhere.

I don't think current models have the ball or bag now as I've read reviews of disappointed buyers who were expecting at least the bag.

I agree that the stair hose is a very useful bonus and should be highlighted by Argos in their catalogue and website. I bought my Hetty from Argos because it had £10 off and a £10 voucher towards a future purchase and had no idea about the stair hose until I opened the box.

I can confirm that it easily reaches up a standard flight of stairs with plenty of length left to do a couple more steps if your staircase is longer than average. I also found the extension hose useful when I was cleaning my venetian blinds and general detail cleaning with the dusting brush.

When I bought my Henry from Argos last year (the yellow HVR200A) it had a red bag with the face on it, 3 spare bags, but no extra hose, so it hasn't always been supplied from Argos. Numatic seem to put one in when they feel like it. May be why Argos don't advertise the extra hose now, as its hit and miss whether you will get one or not. My guess is when the new HiFlo Henrys come out on the market, you wont be getting any extras at all, as they have to recover all their re-development costs associated with the un-needed shift from 1200W to 580W.

Does anyone know what this new high efficiency motor looks like?

There is a picture of the new motor in Numatic's 2014 ISSA Interclean brochure, which is accessible from www.numatic.co.uk... home page.

It's a two-stage motor that to me appears to be sourced from Ametek Italia.

There was no spare hose in with my John or a bag. I did get an Aero-brush as well as a normal floor tool though.
