Recently I went to a local vacuum shop (Dallas, Texas) to purchase a Royal roller brush assembly for my Royal 882T metal upright. The shop said that they didn't make the 14" roller brush assembly anymore for my model. (See photo of brush assembly painted silver with square ends that I have had for a number of years)

They said a substitute was available and I bought one which was part# 2675221000 and a belt part# 672260-001 to go along with the replacement brush. (See photo of wood colored replacement roller brush)

I came home and tried to install this replacement, and found that the diameter of the replacement roller brush along with the belt placed over the roller brush interfered with the metal bottom plate that is attached to the bottom of the vacuum cleaner. I noticed that my original roller brush had a smaller diameter than the brush the vacuum shop said was a substitute replacement (See photo where I am pointing at the interference point)

What is the part# for the 14 inch Royal roller brush assembly that I should use since the original roller brush assembly is no longer available.

Also, which belt part# should I be using?

Thanks for any help you can provide!

Make that two of us: I've encountered the same thing when I tried to install the #2-675227-000 brush roll into my 1988 Stark Deluxe 5000NA (Royal 889) upright yesterday.

Perhaps, you could give Royal a call concerning this at 1-800-321-1134.

Pete,

I also see the old brush roll (the 1st pic) doesn't even belong on your machine. That one uses stiffeners. My Stark 5000NA originally came with that same brush roll you're talking about.

The original brush roll used on a model 882/T with square ends was a single-bristle type, part #2059721000. The replacement belt should be #1044260001 as your machine has a 5.4 amp motor.

The #1672260001 belt, which is treaded on the inside, is only used for those machines with hex-end brush rolls, which yours is not.

That is the correct replacement brush roll for your machine, you have to make sure that the square ends on the end are in the correct position when you place it in the head. Also, make use the arrow engraved in the wood and in the steel plate are both facing the same way.
