I know this is supposed to be a thread solely devoted to the early, early black bag Kirby's, but I just have to show my favorite daily driver, and its the Eureka in the middle. I can honestly say I ride her like she only cost me two dollars, and I have never ever heard her complain, not nitpick once, and that's a pretty good track record!

My favorite early 500 model would be the 560. The 560 and I have the same year of manufacture! LOL! This is one of the restorations I'm most proud of. She possesses all the sensibility and understated elegance of the 1950s.

If my DreamSoto was for the 1961 model year, then it was on sale in 1960 (and should I wake up in 1960 tomorrow, I'll take a DeSoto,a Kirby, and a Montgomery Ward charge card with no limit!!) Fun fact-wards even sold HOUSES from their catalog back in the day!
Calem-I've got a question for you! WHY is there a Eureka RR belt on that 505s handle? Is it perhaps a hint at that lovely Eureka F&G? |

Dyson-- nothing but cheap flimsy plastic headed to the junk yard in a couple of years. Kirbys -- still going strong after more than 60 years. Nuff said. |

you got it all figured out...you just won a brand new CAR!!!....NOT! Since you mentioned it, it does look like a Eureka belt, but it's just a Kirby half-knot. Portapower, I couldn't have said it any better. Bravo and well done!

Because you have a brain, Mark!!
Plastic and Facebook-touchscreen thingys were the radio went is all but standard now! Wouldn't it be grand to wake up tomorrow and see Plymouth Furys and DeSotos cruising the roads? As the song goes, 'if this is a dream, let be keep on dreaming'!!! I'd be pinching myself if they started making cars with tail-fins! Who cares about the weight? I'm betting 95% of people under 30 have never driven a land-barge! It just makes it more fun to get up to speed on the highway! Land-Sailing is a endangered sport! Cars (and if you've seen the new Samsung/Dysons, vacuums too) get uglier the further we progress into the 21st century. This is especially true with Buick. 'That's not a Buick' is absolutely right! All that bloated plastic isn't going to do the same as a crap-ton of American steel in an accident! I haven't seen chrome on a car since the 1970s, what a shame! Cars stopped Looking good in it, could you imagine a chrome-out Prius? No, of course not! You need tail-fins and a push-button transmission to go along with that! |

I'm still debating carrying around a counter for every time I see a prius,I usually see around 7 while out thrifting! It's always fun to turn your head and see a vintage beauty going down the road,I couldn't leave the window when a vintage Camaro ran out of gas across the street from me!
I have a feeling we'll be up all night at this rate, Mark! We're posting posts faster then you can change a Kirby belt! |

I've got a 1967 VW Beetle, and it's going to be my first car. When we first got it, it only had primer on the exterior, and was kind of plain-looking. After a new paint job and a chrome polishing, she looks as good as ever. Not to mention that a VW air-cooled engine will run FOREVER if it's maintained properly. It's a sexy car!

Recently, my aunt called me and said her friend had given her a Kirby that she didn’t want. What she described to me over the phone sounded like her friend had given her a Classic III. This weekend I went over to her house to troubleshoot her computer and shampoo her dining room carpet. After I was finished helping her she said “don’t forget the vacuum cleaner”. She made it clear that she didn’t want the Kirby because it was too heavy for her to use. The Kirby was in her hall closet and she said that my five year cousin James had got to it first. I was surprised to find a 561 sitting in her closet. My cousin who may become a future vacuum collector had the attachment boxes open and the attachments lying on the floor. I’m relieved the Kirby turned out to be a 561 and not a Classic III as I already have two of those. It's funny that whoever converted it to an F&G bag system put a bag topper on it.

I have one in two categories. Out of the ones I own, it would be my current oldest Kirby, the 508. It’s so stunning with its original bag and parts. Out of every Kirby in general, it would be the Model C.

Just the looks of them, the design and the colors is such a beauty. The sound of it is like music to my ears. And the performance is just wow for 4.5/5.5 amp motor that it uses. If I were to keep one Kirby, this would be it hands down. Especially growing up with my Grandparent's G4, I'd still rather take the Heritage II.

Out of ones I don't have, i'd say the 508 and the early C with the brass badge pictured near the beginning of the thread.
Out of ones I have, either the 514 ( i have the original wheels) or the nearly all original 562. The metallic copper is gorgeous. ~K |

I"M unsure of my favorite 'early' model....Probably my Model C or 2 C.
My model C (earliest model version) is missing its brass nozzle cover. If anyone knows of one for sale, PLEASE, if you remember, to let me know! I want to finish its restoration ( yeah, still have to do a bag as well). thx Kelton |
