This may sound like a silly question but....

I've got a legend2 machine with the old style yellow paper bag in it - style 3.

Are the 'F' style bags from my Sentria2 compatible? Obviously the inlet hole is the same size, however the reason I'm asking is this....

The outer bag on the Sentria doesn't expand as large as the outer bag on the Legend. My main concern is that the hepa bag will try to over expand inside the larger outer bag on the Legend and burst? If that makes sense?

Cheers, Matt

Hi Matt.

Hi Matt, Hope your well and all your Kirbys are happy.Laughing

I understand what your saying but your fine using the the newer style bags that fit both the G series and the Kirbys that use the F style fitting. I've used them in my spare Heritage II Legend and my spare G5.

I really like these bagsSmile I do hope your using the genuine bags and not the cheap copies....Wink

Don't worry James.... Genuine parts all the way!

I haven't actually had chance to do any restoration on the Legend or Classic since collecting them, however I have given the Legend a good run tonight.

The lady who does the 'day to day' stuff in the local village church has been a clumsy old cow and broken her shoulder so I'm helping out and taking on all the vacuuming duties for the near future.

Stuck a new belt and the last old style paper bag in it and give it a good run over all the carpeting. It pulled out LOADS.

This has encouraged me to pull my finger out and I'll probably do a full restoration on it on Sunday

Excuse the Dyson (old pic) but this is what the Legend has done tonight

James.... being the local Kirby guru I have another Q for ya....

This Legend.... When I initially got it I thought it needed a new brush - HOWEVER...

Tonight prior to taking it to church I had a quick look.

The machine itself hasn't had much use I don't think. The tools are unused for a start and the current brush seems to be the original.

The area that the belt runs on also shows very little wear... I've seen them start to wear away after years of use on other Kirby machines.

Anyway, the original owner had the machine serviced regularly by the local Kirby dealer. The Kirby dealer in question likes to over adjust the brush, I'm assuming to help speed up wear and give him a reason to sell a new brush. I noticed they did it on the first year service of my Diamond Edition a while back. The brush showed 0 wear but he still set it to adjustment setting 2.

Sure enough the Legend brush was adjusted as far out as it would go and the brushes were sticking out LOADS! To the point it was struggling to turn on really plush carpet.

I've wound them about half way back to a much more acceptable level and it now works great.

I've noticed that on the older machines with the silver painted brush rolls the brushes seem a lot softer than the ones fitted to the newer style machines....
If I were to buy a new brush for it (genuine part) would it be a stiffer brush?

What would you do? The machine seems to perform very well, I'm just wondering if a new brush coupled with a new style heap bag would make it perform as good as my Sentria

Hi

Hi Matt, That's good to hear and I look forward to seeing the pictures of it after.

I would love to take my Kirbys for a spin around that field of carpeting.

P.S I hope you wasn't the one who broke the ladies shoulder so you could give your new Kirbys a good work out!Laughing

Hi again...

It's good that you have adjusted the brush roll to the correct length. They only need to be adjusted to where there just showing out the bottom or the rug plate when you turn the head upside down and look across the opening.

With regards to your question "no" if you was to buy a new roller the bristles would be the same as what is currently on your Legend II.

So if the original roller is in good condition I would not bother replacing it. Using the new style HEPA bags will help it breath and filter better as well as using a fresh new genuine belt.

Beautiful Church!

That's a beautiful old church with lots of carpet. I wonder why they wanted to cover the original floors (slate?)? The carpet is beautiful but I'm sure it has an impact on the acoustics. Thanks for posting that picture!

Bags

Hi Matt

These are the universal ones James mentioned and are what I have in all my Kirbys... These are a very good price as well - some sellers want nearly twice this!
