Hello,

I have just taken delivery of a "new/other" Ensign Stealth which is faulty. The cleaner had had very minimal use but after a wipe down was in as new condition apart from the fact the height sensor doesn't work. Both the brush and bag lights flash when the machine turns on, but the height control doesn't move. Does this mean a brand new pcb or is there a way to possibly fix this. It seemed such a bargain and I want to keep it, but I don't fancy having to pay for a replacement pcb. Any suggestions please?

I will be uploading an unboxing of this cleaner on my youtube channel soon.

Roger

Well I tried to repair the problem myself but couldn't get the height control to work. I used my X5 as a donor model to test various parts but the problem remained. I swapped the pcb and the servo motor for the wheel but they didn't work in the Ensign. I was more worried that the X5 wouldn't work after removing some parts but thankfully once assembled it was fine.

It is such a shame about the Ensign because the motor works, the brush turns and it looks brand new apart from a small scuff on the cleaner head. I emailed the seller and they refunded me straight away and said I could keep it, so at least I haven't lost out. When I have time I will delve deeper into the cleaner and see if i can rectify the problem, but it will be on the back burner for quite a while while I get on with the many other things that need doing.

Facebook group

What is this Facebook group Chris? I did try to join a vacuum cleaners collectors group on Facebook recently but my request seemed to have been ignored so I cancelled it.

I doubt there is a guarantee Josh. The manufacturer is Sebo but the cleaner is branded Johnson Diversey. I will be uploading the unboxing of this soon.

Defective Ensign Stealth

Hi Roger,

Have you check that the little magnet on the swivel neck is still in place? I had an X1 that wasn't adjusting once and the little magnet was stuck to the power PCB sensor which made the machine think it was in the upright position.

Hi Richard,
I found out about the magnet being out of place when I searched online for a solution, but mine was where it should be. Both the brush and bag full lights flash when the cleaner is on.

Perhaps the problem could lie with the actual sensor itself as that is the main part which monitors the brush and motor speed. You could try swapping the one out of your X5 and see if that makes any difference?! I know the sensors are calibrated differently though depending on model so it might not work correctly anyway. (example of sensors: X1 - Grey Ring, X1.1 & X4 - Yellow Ring, X2 - Blue Ring, X3 - Red Ring...etc

Goodness Roger, quite a spell of bad luck lately, such a shame with the Panasonic(s) and this one. As far as repairing the height system I don't have any experience, but really if you had swapped out all those parts I imagine something should have at least changed. I would perhaps contact Sebo just to see what they say, of course they may just recommend a new outrageously expensive part.

Ryan,
I saw those parts on Ebay earlier today but I don't know which part is faulty. The item in the link is one of the main parts that I didn't swap with my X5, so that could be the one that needs replacing. I'm in no rush to fix the Stealth so I've put it away for now and will look at it again soon. If and when I find out which part is preventing the height control from working, I think I'd rather buy a brand new replacement, rather than one that's been taken from a used cleaner. I got my £60 back from the seller, so even if I spend £60 on new parts, I still have a bargain almost new Ensign Stealth 1 for my collection.
