Does anyone out there in Vacuumland have a blue Hoover cord with the word "Hoover" embossed on the plug? I would be more than happy to buy it from you and pay you the shipping. I have come across a very nice Hoover Areodyne model 42 that needs a new blue cord. It could be from a model 82 Connie, a model 62 or 63 upright. The original blue cord was petrified into a permanent coil! Thanks in advance!

Hey Tom-

Although not original, I needed a cord for my model 42 as well... Jeff suggested using a blue cord from a metal Royal upright. Although the plug is sort-of generic, it is the perfect color blue! I'll take a picture later..

Tom, does your petrified cord have a Hoover plug? Then how about transplanting the plug to the end of a Kirby Tradition cord? I saw Marty do that with a Classic III cord and a model 14 Lark plug. It turned out great. Just a thought...

Rick...

Thanks for the tip...I am not sure how to remove the original plug and wires and how to insert the new wires. I do not have the original plug as it too was brittle and crumbling like the cord. I may have a brown one though...hmmm...the wheels are turning!

Hey Tom-

As promised, here is a picture of my 42 with a cord from a metal Royal upright. The color is very close--not exactly the same, but close enough.

I, too, remember seeing Marty's plug transplant... it looked to be very well done. I seem to recall him saying it involved a very sharp Exacto knife, some cutting and soldering, and super glue--and a ton of patience.

Maybe he can chime in on how he worked his magic...

Group Shot~

While I was at it, I couldn't resist pulling the rest of my Aero-Dynes down off of the shelf for a group shot.

My model 50 doesn't have a cloth hose--which I would love to find. All of the attachment kits are still packed away in a box--perhaps I'll pull those out this week and do another photo shoot. Also, the model 50 and 53 both had their original cords when I got them, but when I took them apart, I had to cut them to take them out of the machine. I tried to reuse them, but the casing around the two wires that are inside the brown rubber jacket just crumbled to pieces when I tried re-stripping the wires to re-attach them. So I had to use 1960s brown replacement cords that were sacrificed from machines I've come across here and there.

The only two models I'm missing are the model 41 (burgundy and grey) and the model 55 (sort-of a blueish grey--last model before the 82 Constellation). I'd love to find both... someday...

I love that blue Aero-Dyne, I thought they were all brown. I'll have to keep my eyes open for one!
Are they very rare?
Nicholas
P.S.
Anybody have a pic of a model 55?
