Hi all! I'm new to this site and have been a collector for years. Thought this would be a great site to get to know some other collectors out there :) So last night was trash night around my neck of the woods. My friend and I were about to go out and chill, just to get away from being cooped up all day inside. As we're leaving we start driving up my street when I look over to one of my neighbor's houses and sitting right there on the curb was a Kirby G6. I remembered seeing this Kirby in their garage before, years ago. I definitely wasn't going to pass up a free Kirby. So he stopped and I hopped out real quick running it back to my house to drop it off and we went back out for the night. Later on get back to the house later and I immediately rush the Kirby upstairs to my room to inspect it over. I brought it up and turned on the light, setting it down on my bed for a minute while I opened my window up to get some air into the room. When I got back over to my bed, I plopped down and suddenly all of my giddiness faded into darkness. The bed was soaked all around the base of the G6. So I took the head off and sure enough...disaster! It appears it was ruined from water damage. The motor is completely frozen as if it had been sitting under water for years. I was SOOOOOOO bummed out :( I've never had a G6 and I have always wanted one. The bag and handle are still good so I was wondering if I found just the head of the machine for sale on Ebay or Craigslist, what would be a good price for just the head? I imagine this would take more money than it's worth to fix it up...just too far gone on the motor itself. Thanks in advance for any help on this.

Cheers :)

Hi there!

And welcome to vacuumland! About any Generation series head will fit (they're all the same vacuum!Tongue out). It's best you continue to take the cleaner apart, water has likely reached the motor.does the fan rotate freely?

If you lived closer I'd give you a head off a G4, but New Jersey is quite a ways from Florida!

Being a non-upgraded member,I could not message you on this wonderful site, so I sent to an email.

Are you a collector of vacuums, or simply a man and his free Kirby? I can see an abundance of older Mac computers, I'm guessing you're into older Mac computers?

That's awesome that I can put any of the G series heads on. I had thought that I could do that but I wasn't sure. I am a collector of vacuum cleaners. I used to visit this site and see the posts where people would just inquire about some vintage vac they got to see how much it was worth. It would really bother me to see people use this site just to inquire about the vac they had for a profit. But I've been collecting since the age of six. Recently had to drastically downside my collection though. I was running out of space and it's my parents house. And I do collect old or used Macs. Pretty much anything from Apple I'll collect. I've got a lot of collections. I'm on the borderline of hoarding! Lol. Sorry for the book response. I tend to ramble sometimes even when I'm typing :3

I had a load of those imacs a few years ago. Was fun playing about with them!

Nice trash find too!

I am sorry about your Kirby, I want a Kirby too, so will look out for things like this, Thanks for sharing!
Let's hope your refurbishment of the Kirby G6 will go well.

That is a easy fix , simply disassemble it and clean it out, fit new bearings ( easy to do ) and you will be on your way, It will probably need a new brush roll and belt.

I am not a huge Kirby fan ( of G series models ) but one thing i can say it they can be rebuilt rather easily. A few months back we had heavy heavy rains in a area called Sommerset West and a river burst its banks flooding quiet a few homes, Its a rather well to do area and we gt a few Kirby's in for repair a few weeks later all with water damage. As a vacuum is not high on the lsi of priority's when your home floods ( maybee the shop vac is ) they were left to dry and rust before they got to us.

All were repaired with minimal effort and cost to the owners.
