If it's a Hoover! Okay, I may have just butchered 2 very famous slogans for 2 very different companies, but that's okay. I have said this a hundred times, and I'll say it again. My Hoover Convertible never fails to impress me. It deep cleans like no other, and you can feel the airflow through the motor. The reason that Hoover stayed with the same design for so long is because it works. It's a simple, no-frills design that does what any vacuum should: clean your carpets. I only wish that Hoover would move back to North Canton and start making the Convertibles again. That would be the best thing ever!

that's why going to estate sales, thrift stores and vacuum shop back rooms can yield these great classic work horses of vintage vacuuming. there are millions still out there, and tho the short production number models like 714 or a penncrest convertible are hard to come by, it's still very easy to get ALL parts for these machines, bags, belts, motors, etc.

i myself have four and now they finally all run too. (i just recently rebuilt the 719 after getting a new old stock metal fan for it) models 1076,704,707 and 719 are the ones i have right now. i love the metal based machine's lower rpm humm with an original beat bar. its quiet soothing i think and you can carry on conversation with someone next to you without any trouble at all.

i have 11 vintage hoovers (4 convertibles, 4 constellations (including one penncrest) a swingette, slimline and portable) and love them all. they all clean great and the cannisters are nearly bulletproof, i have yet to service a single one for bearings or carbons. all the convertibles have been torn apart and serviced and run well. i started into collecting because of kirby 3 years ago, but now have more hoovers than the other 3 brands i collect (kirby, electrolux, kenmore)

is a newer model, a U4387 from the late 80's. I still want to find an older metal base machine, though.
