I came across a Kirby 514 or 513 at a thrift store. I noticed it had an aluminum brush roll on it. I don't remember ever seeing this on a Kirby. Is this a replacement part, or "made to fit" part?

That might be the original brush roll that came with the machine when it was brand new. It would have no thread guards on it.

I'll have to go take a second look at it. Thanks Ben. Would this model originally have a foot flip switch? It had a metal button. It also had black wheels and a grey cover at the bottom of the Sani-emtor.

Anthony,

The model 512 was the last Kirby to use the toggle switch.

The model 513 inaugurated the step-on foot switch.
