you really should try it out yourself

thekirbylover's profile picture
then you will get the best answer for you
performance= over all very decent wont deep clean carpets but not many clean airs do

filtration= very good its S class which is hospital standard

noise level= quite quiet though sudden start can make you jump if you dont realise its switched on

general overview= very good all rounder very versatile and simple to use

automatic height adjustment= quite debatable I find it raises it to high, it will still clean the carpet but wont dig unlike the felix

costs= quite cheap service box £15 may vary from shop to shop, spares quite cheap as well

opinions= like I said the height adjustment lifts the cleaner to high to do any digging they clean decent though, they could have more hose suction but thats no biggy, also if you have pets the upholstery tool will have to be cleaned very frequently as everything will stick to the static brush in the middle of it, also machine will fall over allot when using tools so hold the top of the handle or do what I do and use the extension hose for everything above floor. all that being said it is a great cleaner

Im sure many will have opinions but...

Have you read Chris' previous post?

www.vacuumland.org/cgi-bin/TD/TD-...

Pros:

Good suction
Easy to push
Long cord
Relatively low noise
Low running costs
Flat to the floor cleaning
Easy to fix
Turbo brush can be used on the X1.1, X4 and X5 models.
Lengthy guarantee

Cons:

No brush roll on/off function
Can fall over when instructions haven't been read properly.
Sensor won't adjust properly on thick pile carpeting.
Short hose on board - extension hose could be bought if doing stairs.
No dusting brush on the X1.1 as standard.

The dust bags are the lowest priced in terms of capacity and amount - you get almost double for the same price as Miele's 4.

The filter roll can last up to 32 dust bags and 16 to 20 bags if buying the charcoal filter for pets. An additional filter goes on top of the motor,

None of the SEBO X series deep cleans deep into the pile - which I'm quite happy about - and SEBO do advertise that the X series "gently cleans" for good reason (which many seem to forget and then moan that it never goes deep enough), but the design is as such the brush roll design reduces brush wear and carpet wear.

Unlike other brands you can choose the standard roller brush or a soft roller brush, and this also applies to the Felix.

As I have wool short loop I have to be very careful with my uprights as wool short loop is very easy to damage if it is allowed to be cleaned with deep "dirty fan" style brush rolls - one reason to why I may well adore my Vax VCU02 but have to be careful with its use.

An X series though is good as an alternative to what you have in your collection, Jord. Most owners get annoyed with the short hose on board and its location at the top means it will fall over when used - unless you go by the INSTRUCTIONS and hold the hose with one hand whilst using the end hose with the other hand.

So many moan about the X series because they don't read the instructions or the info online about them - but I can tell you - they surprised me when I was a Hoover collector - the X models go on forever - and in this day and age in the UK, that's a hard aspect to find, these days.

Whoops and also!

sebo_fan's profile picture
The other thing to consider is if you require a small to medium vacuum or a large size upright? The Felix might be more your thing if you have more hard flooring and deeper pile carpets than going for the X1.1 series completely. A cheaper bargain would be a second hand X1 Automatic or an X1.1 that hasn't been abused.

I sold off my X1.1 last year and my X4 just a couple of months ago. I have our family's X1 Automatic now and I'm happy with that alongside my Felix.

Well if you live in a flat Id get a Felix, personally. They're better for getting around obstacles because of the swivel. But if you have you heart set on an X1.1 go for it.

I would however go for the X4 as you get an extension hose and dust brush for free, £217 from the same company that Chris has listed (www.vacuspares.co.uk/buy-sebo-aut...)

Or Amazon UK which have a super deal for a white and yellow X4 model at £199.99 - the white and yellow model is pretty rare.

I think you should try and visit a high street store to test run an X4 as Michael suggests. TRY IT before you BUY IT makes a lot of sense.

Cool, dont tell them that though - just say you're interested in buying a SEBO X4 and would like to try one. Sometimes some stores have ex-demo models, so its really what the sales person might say or even, offer.

As Ryan suggests try the SEBO Felix as well. When I went to buy my SEBO Felix I did have in mind buying the X4 but came away with a Felix, which I used in a flat to start with. Nearly 7 years later the Felix is still running like new as would an X Series too. The Felix is more versatile too just depends your needs and wants and what you find easier to use!

I used my first sebo the other day when bringing my new X1 home. At first I was slightly meh about the performance. It doesnt groom as well as a Turbopower, tool suction is a bit lacking (although only 850w).

But using it, it did work well. Certainly picked up a big fistful of crap from a carpet that gets regularly vacced with a TP Junior, or Miele with turbo brush. Is funky watching itchange height too. My mums loungue floor isnt level as I found out as it randomly changed setting and then back as I went over a lumpy bit.

Will persevere though, I do like it. Good luck with whatever you get!

What about getting a used Sebo off Ebay? I got my X4 Extra for £160 from a seller who was selling it on behalf of his elderly mother who bought it then didn't like it and only used it once or twice before ordering another cylinder vac. You can get real bargains second hand on EBay. I know its not a vac, but I got a virtually new philishave shaver only used once (a PT920) for £40 off Ebay that's £180 in Argos! look hard enough and you could bag yourself a really good bargain X4 Extra, but the only real drawback is second hand you may not get any warranty. I've always taken the risk, as the savings on the new prices can be staggering!

Each to their own with second hand buys but...

sebo_fan's profile picture
Ive bought quite a few second hand vacs from EBay and only a few sellers have stood by their promises, in terms of what is wrong with the vac, or in some cases claiming that all is well until you open it up!

I had a few probs like that with Hoover Juniors, but if, like me you polish, clean, do up and make new as best you can, it can start to get annoying after a few years!

Unless a model has been cleaned out and is well maintained and in excellent condition I wouldn't buy from EBAY again. I have a selective list of sellers that I've bought from time and time again who are trustworthy and the vacuums they've sold go by the just as trusting listing (Roger being one of them).

The last SEBO I had was the X4 I sold a few months ago. It came to me in "very good condition," but the seller didn't really know what he was selling. It actually needed a new hood since one of the screw bits had been removed from the hood and wasn't sitting right on top and then also required a new hose since it one it came with had a cracked collar. For the £170 price I paid, I expected more.

If I was going to buy a SEBO again, it would be for keeps and it would be brand new. I would probably buy the white X4 with yellow inserts which is cheaper at Amazon UK for £199.

I don't consider the X series to be that expensive though - not with what you are getting - but the second hand ones can be dodgy at best dependent on use, but that's like with all other vacs too.

Yes, Narayan, you are indeed correct, Ebay can be dodgy, and you need to be careful. The more pictures a seller puts on of an item the better, so you can see all of its flaws. I like to collect in person rather than have the vac posted to me, so that if its not as described or a bag of ***** I can refuse to pay for it.

If there is only one picture and a poor description of the vac, I don't bid on it, as I cant be sure it will be any good. If the seller cant make the effort, then I cant be bothered bidding.

Well Jord, I would get to John Lewis first as I suggested originally and try the X series new so that you get a fairer representation as well as the Felix.

Post# 270898 , Reply# 28   3/9/2014 at 17:08 (3,698 days old) by madabouthoovers ()

Yes I know the feeling - I have over 50 vacs now, and its hard to be able to say no, I cant buy another one. I have to limit what I buy now to better quality vacs like Miele's or Sebo's rather than the cheaper Chinese made vacs like Vaxes and Hoovers, which I have been a bit disappointed with lately.

Your parents have to say no too, as you would end up taking over the house with vacuum cleaners. We all have to learn that there are limits to how many vacs we can accumulate in our houses.
