I picked up a Hoover Convertible on Saturday and have been in the process of cleaning it up a bit. I'd like to get the motor rebuilt, but really don't have the time or tools I would need to do it myself. My question is do y'all think my local vacuum shop would rebuild the motor if I took it in? I'm talking lubing bearings, checking carbon brushes, and making sure the motor is in over all good health. I'd love some feedback on this especially from someone who owns or works in a vacuum cleaner shop. Thanks, Sean.

Hi Sean,

Convertibles were popular for SO long, that a GOOD vacuum shop SHOULD know exactly what to do. If they ever sold HOOVER, they've sreviced them before. Let us know how it goes. They're really not that hard to service. The last time I was in N Canton, Tom took my 707 apart, redid the entire machine.
Congrats onthe Convertible!
John

When the machine is all cleaned and serviced I'll post pictures. I'll have to wait until next weekend to take it in since I will be working everyday this week. I will keep everyone updated on the process!

That's a beautiful Convertible! I love vintage machines! I also picked up a Singer Twin Turbo about two weeks ago that I've been working on. It works fantastic I just need to install a new headlight. I'll be posting pictures of them both when they are ready!

RICCAR 8900

I see you have a Riccar 8900 posted on your profile pic. How do you compare your Convertible 707 to the Riccar 8900? Which do you think cleans better since one is a direct air vac and the other bypass?
