So here is something I picked up for $25 at Salvation Army. Not bad deal, unit is very clean and is very quite

I've read a few lengthy posts about filter queens and using the correct filter.. This one came with D style Dirt Devil bags taped to it.

I other wise am clueless. I took it apart and changed the cone filter and the filter on the other part under the plastic cone (on the head) and cleaned the other two filters

But otherwise educate me! I wish i could find an owners manual.. What should I look to change/clean gien I know nothing about this machine.. It does run very well and i like it

Enough Ill keep it and get rid of my cheese little Oreck hand held canister...

Although I still will use my new Sanitaire Commerical upright as my primary vacuum, this will get used.. From reading, I believe this will be good for my deep clening carpet fits esp.

SO thoughts/education on this fine piece of American Machinerey. Posting pics

Can any one shed an idea on how old it is?

also my power head doesnt lock (is it not supposed too)... Am thrilld to have it, seems like a great vacuum. Better than keeping the rainbow as I would have issues keeping it clean and dealing with the water

Those filters are some of the better bojacks, but you can get the official Filter Queen branded ones on ebay pretty inexpensively. Over time that does make a difference. You also probably want the charcoal cone filter (which goes inside the standard cone) if you have pets. I have cats (and scented cat litter), and that filter helps a lot - my FQ emits no odor to speak of, either from the scented litter that gets into the carpets, or from the cat hair. Both my Simplicity and Kirby sometimes do if I don't change bags often enough.

If this one was used without a filter, you might want to disassemble it and blow out the motor with compressed air (or another vacuum, I used a Kirby on blower mode, and it did fine), and you probably want to replace the foam donut filter under the top dome. (though, if it looks clean, don't bother)

I'd have to do some research to see exactly when that one was made, but the Triple Crown model is from the 1990s, so it's not *quite* vintage. (Though the older models - 95x, 33, 31, etc are).

That style of PN doesn't lock, no. Double-check the belt, they use a flat belt that can stretch and lose effectiveness. The belts are cheap and easy to change, and the brush roll is cheap too if it needs replacement. If you order belts, don't be concerned if you get some marked as "Hoover" - there was a Hoover PN that uses the same belt.

You've received very good advice. My only other advice is to turn the power unit (motor) so the receptacle for the power nozzle lines up with the hose opening in the dirt container. Be sure to change the belt on the Power Nozzle and adjust the end caps to the 'worn' position so more of the brush tufts will protrude from the soleplate opening. You'll love the cleaning and filtration of this vacuum.

It looks like your date code is March of 1996. Looks like you got a great deal on a nice machine, good luck with it. Try to use only Genuine Filter Queen Filters, they do make a difference.
