Twas a snowy, cold day in Colorado. I walked into a Goodwill, went to the back and saw a Royal sitting there.

$20 seemed like too much for this old, beat up Royal. However, $10 doesn't!

It works fine, but it's in desperate need of carbon brushes and a light bulb. *cough* BEN (KirbyClassicIII) find me the part numbers *cough*

This is my first Royal. It's pretty good. I'm assuming its from 1985 since there's a sticker on it saying "80 year Anniversary - 1905-1985"

Will,

Serial no. C83-E-52505 - your machine was made in March of 1983.

Will,

Another thing I was going to say of this is that because this is a janitorial Royal, then the original bag (it could be had with or without disposable bags) would be dark blue in color.

The AOR plate would be red in color.

Your machine would've originally looked like what is in the picture below when it was fresh off the factory lines in 1983.

Slightly OT, but - is that a Sun Type 7 mouse I see in the background of that last shot?

Yes that is a Sun Type 7 mouse.

I got it with the matching keyboard, brand new for $7 at the thrift store.

Nice! That's kind of a rare, weird find. Rather like the Royal, in fact :)

I recognize that because I used to collect Sun workstations. I still have one that gets used on a regular basis, actually.
