Hi likeitall.

I don't know exactly what you mean when you say 'fonts.' Are you looking to restore the logo? seeking terms to describe the vacuum cleaner ? or some other reason? if so, please explain in more detail.

If you are looking for the history, I can help. Regina was a German music box company and dates back to the mid to late 1800's. Around 1900 they opened a factory in Rahway, New Jersey and added player pianos to the list of devices. The first tank/canister vacuum cleaner was the Hercules, and appeared in 1875, however, they required two people to operate, one to pump, and the other to move the nozzle and wand over the carpet. As they were expensive, these machines didn't sell well. Around 1910, the Regina company decided to make one, and this was the model A, and called a pneumatic suction cleaner. A number of non electric models followed, plus a few outfitted with electric motors. In the 1920's and 30's a series of electric uprights followed, and then around 1945, the first stick vacuum cleaner called the 'Electrikbroom' (pictured on the far left ) and then another series of canisters.

What you have is rare, but aside from collectors like us, there is no market for this type of antique, and even vacuum cleaner collectors have little interest in this sort of thing. I'd love to have one, as I have several non electric machines of that vintage, but won't pay big bucks for something I have no space for. I suggest you restore it, and keep it as a great item of interest for friends to admire.

You might also have a look at the Cyber vacuum cleaner museum. Go to vacuum cleaner museum, locate Charles Richard Lester (who's a friend of mine) and open his site. He'll give you the exact date the model A was made.

Good luck, and if I can be of any further help, let me know.

Alex Taber.

Here's the lettering from my Regina Model A. The name "Regina" is not in a font per se, but just a stylized script.

Thank you Charles Richard.

As I didn't know what 'likeitall' was asking for, I simply launched into 'historian' mode. I have all the historical data here, but in a box of archives, however, I've not scanned any Regina paperwork yet, looks like I better do so. By the way, I'd love to have that Hercules, but the cost is way too high, and till the display building is ready (sometime this year) I have no place to put it. Would be nice to have a Whirlwind and Hercules. Maybe someday!

sorry I didn't make myself more clear. I want to restore the decal that was originally on the can part of the vacuum. the decal would look just like the picture Electrolux 137 put in his post. I now have four of the old pneumatic vacuum cleaners and love them thanks for the information so far and the pictures.

Glad I could help. I love to see the pneumatic pumpers you have. I don't know if you're aware that the first vacuum cleaner dates back to June of 1869. It's called the 'Whirlwind,' and was invented in Chicago by Ives W. Mc'Gaffy. It's an upright hand crank, and only four still exist. Here's a look at one of them.

Likeitall,
I will have 2 different early reginas on next weeks EBay at reasonable starting bid.You might want to take a look if anything is better than yours or if wanting the other style. Both show age and wear but much of lettering is at least good.
