My parents have a red NuTone CV353 that is missing the floor tool (their house was built in 1987, and the vac was installed at that time). Please post the pics and/or part #s for the following missing attachments for it:

rug tool

wand elbow

In addition, one of the plastic knobs on the elbow of the Motor-Driven Brush has broken off. If you have the part # for that, too, please post it.

By the way, there is also a larger tool with a metal shoe and a small brush by the intake. What is it called and what is it designed for?

FYI...The attachments have a convenient dark brown plastic storage/carrying case.

Kevin, those attachments were made by Eureka. They are no longer avalible, BUT check E-Bay,,i see them come up for sale often there,,they are just the general Eureka attachments that came with Eureka vacuums from the 1960s - 80s.
As for the plastic knob broken off of the PN,,could you be more specific,,or take a pic? What does this knob do?
There again, this will also be NLA, but you could always find replacments on E-Bay,,or another option is to buy a new PN. There are many that would work with your system.
The large floor tool with the metal shoe is called the Rug Nozzle. Used for vacuuming glue down, low nap carpets,,or you could use it on any carpet, and bare floor,,with the brush in the down position.
This too is a Eureka made nozzle,,very common with the Eurekas of the 60s - 80s. It fits on the end of the elbow the same as the floor brush.

Often times you can find complete Eureka attachment kits on E-bay for little money. Just check it often.

Keep in mind too that there are many newer style attachments that will work with your hose system,,you can always upgrade.

Thank you for the information Brian. I'll definitely check out eBay.

Need NuTone information? Ask away! System probably looks exactly like this with the same tools. I have the complete original kit with original hose and cord that runs along the hose for use with the PN. Your unit, however, might have a chrome painted inlet valve on the front of it instead of the black shown in a picture below. The attachments are so hard to come by and none of mine are for sale but if you could post a picture of what PN part you need (neck knob??) I may have a spare. I have an entire box of NuTone parts to rebuild a CV353 system practically twice. A new in box NuTone power nozzle showed up on ebay not too long ago and so did a brown fully loaded attachment case. I found it a couple months ago by searching "NuTone Scovill" on ebay.

My attachment kit (Red upholstery tool replacing the original white one, but is the exact same thing made by eureka)

And lastly the motor driven PN and turbine brush

Thanks for the replies, Daniel (#s 3-6)! I especially appreciate the pics, because now I can ask you about certain attachments. My parents have an attachment carrier just like yours. So what is the curved tool that is next to the crevice tool? That is missing from theirs. They are also missing the floor tool (9 inch?)--the one in the lower left corner (#4). All their attachments are cream-colored.

Their PN is also identical to yours. The piece that's broken off the "elbow"--where the PN head is connected to the wand. One of the little nubs that helps it stay in the upright locked position has broken off.

What is the turbine brush for? My parents do not have one.

Using one of your pics from another thread (I don't have a camera right now), my parents' version is on the left (slightly different than the one you posted on this thread (#3):

Oh, okay! Their unit has the exact same motor, just has a slightly different housing which is a few years newer than the one I posted (#3). The relay is different too. The motor in it, just so you know, is a Lamb 116119, being a 3 stage 7.2" motor - the best motor in my opinion as they deliver plenty of pull. Going on with the attachments, the curved piece by the crevice tool is actually the slot for the metal curved wand that is attached to the rug tool in #4. It slides out of the rug tool and slides into the floor brush for the same use. The floor brush is hard to come by in cream because it doesn't have a plastic neck on it, you actually use that curved wand from the rug tool. I believe the brush is around 7 inches in length, I can get an exact measurement tomorrow.I actually think I have an extra one of those curved metal wands if you're interested, I just have to double check. I may also be able to get a new neck for the PN at work. If the PN still runs and the bristles are still good, it is well worth investing in. A new belt and neck should have it running like new, a better power nozzle than some newer ones made today. The turbine brush was optional. It replaced the electric power nozzle and is driven by the suction of the unit without electricity. It has a full sized brushroll and works really well for a turbine brush, however, with the original hose it doesn't work as well. It bogs down due to the restricted airflow from the ancient hose. Overall the machines are great, I just rebuilt my aunts (exactly the same as the one I posted in pic #3)at the end of the summer and it's good to last another 20 years without maintenance. Her system is the first central vac I ever used.

If you have any questions feel free to post here or even shoot me an email. I will get back to you on those parts tomorrow and see what I can come up with.

Daniel

Thank you once again for the information. I'm especially glad to know about the missing pieces in my parents' attachment case and also appreciate information on the motor, turbine brush, and other stuff.

I agree that it's a great machine!

As for your offer of selling me some parts I will pass. Being that you are in Canada I'm sure postage alone would be quite a bit, so I'd rather try to find something cheaper at a vacuum store, thrift store, or even Ebay for the right price. Besides, the missing parts bother me more than my parents--haha.

Just for reference (it doesn't need replacing at this point) what belt does the power brush take? And if you could get me the measurement of the floor tool width that would be great.

Thanks again for your time and assistance.

Hey Kevin, the floor brush actually does measure out being 9" in length. The genuine replacement belt is a "Eureka Style PT Belt". For these power nozzles I always recommend using genuine belts. I know that is what everyone says, but I have used generic belts in mine before and they don't last very long at all. The genuine belts seem to last a lot longer and don't leave as much rubber particles from wear around the motor drive shaft. Also, just for your information, the curved metal wand for use with the floor brush or rug tool measures out to be 12".

Have any other questions? Ask away.

Thank you again for the information and pics, Daniel. I really appreciate it!

I did notice a small bag of 2 belts by the attachments. The brand is FSP (Factory Specification Parts), and the package also states, "Product of Whirlpool Corporation". The term "Genuine" is on the top, and the product information is "5279 - Belt Drive VA - Made in USA - Code 980402". Please let me know if you are familiar with these belts.

One of the things I have learned on Vacuumland is to always go with genuine parts and supplies due to the quality factor and sometimes to protect the motor, so I will definitely heed your advice.

I will have to say that I'm a bit surprised that the floor tool is so narrow. I wonder if the rug tool serves dual purpose, and the floor tool is meant for corners and smaller spaces?

Eureka tools

The rug nozzle did have a lever to raise and lower brush strip but was used as floor tool only on the cheapest standard canisters. That was THE floor brush. But for homes with more hard floors Eureka had a wider floor tool available.Same style and design but at least 12 inches. In addition to later Nutones the late 50s and 60s Singers had same atts also with wide floor brush available.
The Nutone plastic caddy is one of the best storage ideas ever and could hang on wall or be carried through house.

Thanks for clearning that up, Jimmy (#13). I haven't figured out the connection between Eureka and NuTone yet. Were both owned by Electrolux Group?

I agree that the attachment case is awesome. If it weren't for the compartments, it would be harder to figure out which attachments were missing (if one didn't have a manual). I will have to say, though, that it's more ideal to have onboard attachments; including hose clip holders; when one wants to change attachments while cleaning a room or area.

Daniel, Jimmy, or whomever,

Is the brush roll on the motor driven power nozzle supposed to have red plastic "bars" along with the bristles, or were these protective coverings that were supposed to be removed?

Those red strips...

stricklybojack's profile picture
.
are beater bars meant to thump or vibrate the carpet and loosen soil. The only time you want to remove these is if the carpet you plan to vacuum is of the glued down variety...meaning no pad. In that case the suction won't be able to raise the carpet sufficiently to let the beater bars work properly. In that case you replace them with bristle strips. Also, some people prefer using all bristle strips, especially when a soft bristle brush is being used for delicate carpets.
