I was given a Hoover PU2120 in 2010 following a friend who borrowed one of my uprights and promptly broke it (Electrolux Powerlite). True, it is a lightweight plastic moulded art injection upright vacuum and its cheap as chips - its very honest - unlike the Purepower.
My dark blue PU2120 vacuum cleaner didn't last long. The first issue I had was the HEPA filter cartridge door at the back of the upright that kept falling off. Eventually the nibs broke off and Hoover UK sent out another one free of charge. During performance the noise was too much for my ears, the upright failed to flat clean to the floor unless you clean at a slight angle and then the angle of the bin gets scraped by low furniture like open beds. Edge cleaning was impressive but its a pity that the height adjustment knob broke off and the fact that you couldn't change the height setting unless the handle is put into the locked position. I don't recall having to do that with the old Junior or Senior uprights...And I agree about the bags bursting - the higher the power, the more liable the dust bags can rip under the strong force of suction. Eventually the press release for the handle lock broke three times. Sent back to Hoover twice. Third time the pedal went, I threw in the towel of the Purepower upright experience. They're not well built at all and none of the models now have a bag fill indicator, which shows how much Hoover care about their bagged preference customers. I have had a few Purepowers in my life time. The high power past 1700 watts is when quality in my experience started to fall down. Last year I bought a Hoover Slalom on a whim. It still works but the crevice tool holder at the back has now snapped off, making it useless when using the hose and that short telescopic adjusted combined tool can't be stored on the machine. It is however far better built than the Purepower uprights can dream of. Hoover have done another Purepower, in the form of the £199 "Enigma" rename - and it now has 2300 watts, or rather 2200 watts - or perhaps Hoover can't make up its mind - the model on the Argos website shows two identical models but one states 2200 on the hood and another Enigma with 2300 written on it. Panasonic's far better bagged uprights are better made, have a bag indicator and aren't as much a chore to use, in my opinion. |
