I found a Hoover 500 on craigslist... I'm interested in it, but want to check on here to see if it would be a good buy.

He says its all original, but I know someone here could tell me if this is true.

Would $20 be a good price to pay? The attachments look like their in great condition and I love the look of these old Hoovers.

Also, when was it made and what's something you could tell me, never owning or seeing a Hoover 500 before?

A good deal!?

Sure the bag is a recent replacement, but that's a great deal! WAY better than the nut-jobs who post those cleaners on ebay for $500!

If you want that cleaner, You buy it! there may never be another chance (I learned that the hard way)!

Well, first off it's a model 300. You may have inadvertently hit the wrong key there when typing out your thread title. The 300 was a mid thirties model, so to find one in this condition and this complete for twenty dollars strikes me as a bargain, even if it does have the wrong bag attached. I'd suggest that if you're really interested in this you should act quickly.

Now let's consider something else. In the 1935 ad for this vacuum seen below, the price is $49.75. If we were to spend that money on Hershey bars instead of Hoovers in 1935, at five cents each we would end up with 995 chocolate bars. If we then convert the same number of Hershey bars back into cash at today's prices(often a dollar a piece) we end up with $995 dollars. Isn't inflation wonderful. The bottom line is you have an opportunity to pick up what was darn near a thousand dollar machine in today's dollars for a mere twenty bucks. As I mentioned above, if you're really interested you should act quickly.

Oh. Its a hoover 300.

I know PoconoVacMan would be happy as its a North Canton hoover.

I think I'll call. I figured the bag was a replacement, but it looks pretty good otherwise.if I don't like it I'll sell it. I'm sure after I restore it someone would be willing to take it.
