Hi everybody!!! My dad just gave me my mom's Electrolux 1205 that actually her mom bought brand new! I'm gonna ask my Grandma specifics on that vacuum sometime. I'm really excited! This is the first vacuum that got me interested in collecting vacuums! As you can see in the pictures, he's in dire need of restoration!!! As soon as I'm done fixing up my Model xxx "Exxy", the 1205 I've affectionately named "Lux", will be getting a head to toe restoration! Here's the funny part, as bad as he looks, we plugged him in and he runs great!!! There's so much smuts on his cord that you wouldn't think that his cord re-winder works, but that's not the case! It works so good that it'll snap the cord outta your hand!!! Looks are deceiving!!! I'm just in love with him and so glad to have him in my house now!! Does anyone know the paint code for the 1205's??? Also, he's missing one of his back wheels, does anyone have one for sale??? I'm not concerned with getting a carry handle because they're not very strong. I use my 1205 named "Luxy" everyday and I'm so very careful in carrying her! My husband and I are going to make an exact match to the original carrying handle, but make it outta metal and then paint it white! No plastic! Ha Ha! Thanks for looking! By the way, in this picture, "Luxy" is on the left and "Lux" is on the right. -Michelle

Well, I can understand the special sentimentality around having one of the very vacuum cleaners you grew up with, even if it's in negligible condition by now.

I have two such machines, one a Lux XXX that belonged to my Aunt in Virginia. I only saw it a few times in my childhood - never saw her using it - and barely remembered anything about it except that it was an XXX. But a few years ago I got an email from one of my cousins saying he was at my aunt's house and saw the old machine in their garage. He said to her, "I'll bet Charles would love to have that!" And she let him send it to me. It's the blue-front version, with a cord winder. There was a replacement 1205/L hose on it. It's not in beautiful condition but I'm happy to have it for the nostalgic value, even as vague as the nostalgia is.

Then the biggie was when I found, via the Internet, my childhood friend who lived next door to us in Virginia. His Mom had a Model E that I was endlessly fascinated by. I had wondered over the years what became of them and their Electrolux and finally found him one day on Facebook. I asked him if his Mom still had that Model E and to my amazement he said she did, and he would be happy to send it to me. It is in excellent condition, also with a replacement hose but it's just as I remembered it in every detail.

Hi Michelle.

So nice to see you posting again. Did you read the posts in that thread 'Lux 30/XXX tools?' One of our experts is 'Crevicetool,' and many years ago he put together a chart of exact colors for various machines, use our message service and ask if he has the formula chart for your 1205. Charles Richard Lester is also one of our restoration experts, I'm sure he can provide information to walk you through the restoration process.

I'm snowed in, have been since before Christmas, but as I need to pay rent on my holding shed this week, will go through the boxes of tools, bringing home the parts you and other people need and start distributing them right after the first of the year. Drop me a message to remind me of the tools I promised you. '

Have a happy new year, and I hope I see you and your husband in Cleveland next June. The convention will blow you away.

Alex Taber.

Thanks for writing and sharing!!! I love hearing the history behind peoples' madness! Ha Ha! I just started collecting vacuums. I have: 1 Electrolux model LE (with yellow and red badge) named "Lexy", 1 Electrolux model XXX (later model; no blue) named "Exxy", 2 Electrolux 1205's named "Luxy" and "Lux", and a 1975 Hoover Convertible named "Hoovie". I have so many interests and hobbies! I collect stand and hand mixers, clocks/radios, vacuums, and chainsaws. I have more chainsaws than anything else; 103 to be exact, but my other hobbies are slowly growing! We can't wait to start the restoring process on dear Mr. Lux! Ha Ha! -Michelle

Thanks for the information to help me track down the paint code!!! I will be looking that up here pretty soon!

I will be re-looking up what tools you said you had for me. I will re-write them to you. Thank you!

I hope you have a Happy New Year as well!!! As for the vacuum convention, I'm still not 100% sure if we can go or not, but we're looking forward to it if we can go! By the way, does the convention charge an admission fee?

-Michelle

Hi Michelle.

As it's early in the season, all the arrangements are still being made. But if you go to the main page at Vacuumland, and click on Vacuum Clubs, you'll get the V.C.C.C. site. Scroll down till you see the Kirby Convention. All info is there.
