Hi all, the original thread is no longer listed, Si I've tooken the liberty to start this new one. I am WAY over due to list the vacuums I've seen!
Let's start off with the lesser-interesting cleaners.
On an episode of the A&E Network's "Storage Wars:Texas" The Victor One pulled from a unit a Kirby 500 series in red with a replacement tan bag, then making the statement of, "Looks as if this thing's ready for the recycling bin", terrible!
Now, take a trip with me, to, THE TWILIGHT ZONE! (Playing Theme)
On and episode entitled, "Mr.Dingle the strong", See link, A Vacuum Cleaner salesman is given super-strength under the observation of visitors from Mars.Pausing the video @ 1:15 reveals this neat-looking vacuum of a vacuum. A smaller drum similar to that of a Filter-Queen almost, but with a motor protruding from the top and attachments surrounding said motor. Anyone willing to hazard a guess? Defiantly not one on your local market, but one only available at your local Wards, Said Wards only available, In the Twilight Zone!
But guess what else came around? AN ACTUAL HOOVER! WITH THE ACTUAL SOUND! You may find 2 actual Hoovers, One already noted in, "Ring-a-ding Girl", The other... See Below...

HOOVER commercial 913's present and real in the episode "Once upon a time", In which a Janitor in 1890 stumbles upon his boss, A scientist,'s new invention, A time-traveling helmet thingy! You've got to love the Sparklers used in the time traveling scenes. While I do recommend watching the entire episodes, you came here for HOOVERS, Not Science Fiction galore.
Thankfully, I still do enjoy these episodes from the comfort of my Easy Chair. Imagine my delight when that Janitor went into 1960 and took the helmet to an ELECTRICAL repair shop!
So, Two Hoover Commercials, both with the bags off. The first is on the floor. the Janitor goes over and clicks it on, the bag inflates and he begins stomping on it, silly time-traveler! his accompanist, an expert of the 1890 period who is now aiding in the Janitor's return, pauses from conversing with the repair man to switch off the cleaner.
The second one sits upon a Chair. the Janitor sits on the bag, and places his Hat on the handle, Inadvertently switching the cleaner on. The bag lifts him off the seat.
They first enter the shop @ 12:00, and you can see the faint 913 in the background on the chair. At first I thought it was some-sort of a reversed Kirby or General-Electric, but clarity came during the Hat scene and the Hood gave it away. There cleaners where likely used at the studio, being commercial units!
@ 14:00, The Janitor goes over and messes with what appears to be an Underwood typewriter, spins a fan blade, then switches on the HOOVER, then begins stomping down the bag in surprise.
then @ 14:50, The Janitor's accompanist frees him from a box, and sits him down on the bag-lined chair. When his Hat is placed on the cleaner's handle, The HOOVER is switched on, and you can even see that glorious, Original bag!
What joy! What are your Television vacuum encounters like? Do Tell! -Alex. |

The convertible in "The Twilight Zone" A second after she turns it on, I could here the beater bar tapping as she ran over the edge of some sort of metal strip that must of been a cut off point between the carpet and a hard floor area, lol! I have done that on more than one occasion with my Juniors and Seniors. |

Just saw the movie w/Jayne Wyman,& the Lewyt. The ring-a-ding girl is Maggie Macnamara. She was in a film called "The Moon is Blue"w/ Bill Holden, & David Niven. Quite controversial for it's day;because the word virgin is mentioned. Also in the film;there is a scene in David Nivens'apt, where the tub runs over.Niven,& Holden get some towels from the linen/broom closet to mop it up,& you can see a Hoover 29 in the closet.

Shaun of the Dead:
When Ed is turning into a zombie in the cellar of the local pub, in the background there is a Hoover Convertible. It appears to be a turquoise.I don't know much about Hoovers so I have no idea what model that would be. Probably a minute or two earlier you could see it better, but I couldn't find the clip online and I don't have a bluray drive in my computer (I only own it on bluray) so this is the best I'm going to get. |

Hi All! The vac in reply 14 could also be a McAllister, as it looks similar to a Fairfax, but is usually brown instead of red and chrome. Later, Toby G. |

To Smaster: That's a McAllister Bagless, not a Fairfax, which is a somewhat obscure machine. The dies later were sold to Fairfax after McAllister stopped making cleaners.
To Danemodsandy: That's a Lewyt Big Wheel, the first model, which was Top Of The Line, especially since it has the optional attachment carrier on the back. The Big Wheel was the first square Lewyt after the whole Filter Queen/Lewyt lawsuit was settled in Filter Queen's favor. |
