Your Kirby itself states, "Do not use cleaner outdoors or on wet surfaces", But isn't that EXACTLY what you do with the Rug Renovator? Your using your Kirby on a moist, Dampened rug!

It's a enigma wrapped in a mystery devised by their attorneys, man! I can feel their boots on our necks and their hands in our pockets!

I HAVE noticed it, and it never made much sense to me either. I can't exactly remember, but I think the G series say something like "...except for surfaces dampened by carpet shampoo system"

Hi super-sweeper

I've thought the same thing, and I was a Kirby training manager for many years. What the Kirby company top brass meant was it was not to be used to suck up water. The renovator tank converts the water and suds into a dry foam, but never vacuums up the water.  Some people did have the setting too high and soaked the carpet, and yes, some people did vacuum up the excess with the miracle head. Kirby's are tough, and can take it, but nobody should over-do that.

I also think Kirby said this to avoid retribution if somebody did something stupid, and use it to drain a fish tank or something like that.

I'd love to hear from others who want to address this topic.

but Alex T....

i can understand why they would think that, but as knowledgeable collectors, we know that those "dry" suds are indeed not "dry" or your carpet would not be wet, and need to dry. Even so, water will still find its way tot he fan.

I'm also willing to bet that most Kirby owners over the years used it to vacuum out the car. Don't know too many people who bring the car inside!!

Kirby suds,

caligula's profile picture

are mostly soap and air mixed with a little water. If done right, they make a carpet, couch and so on, slightly damp, then dry to a fine powder in about an hour. I did a carpet shampoo with every demo, and never soaked the carpet. However, a number of our trainees did! The toe touch control needs to be all the way down, if not, yes, you do soak the carpet.

The "do not use on wet surfaces" was a warning to protect Kirby from liability. Like the sticker on a pillow that used to read "Do not remove under penalty of law." That was finally changed to "do not remove, except by consumer." There are dozens of stupid warnings out there if you look for them.
