Why didn't Dyson make all their tools interchangeable? The handhelds would be so much more versatile if they would accept all Dyson attachments. For example, the articulating hard floor tool would make the DC 35, DC44, DC 56 much better hard floor cleaners. I don't like to clean hard floor with a revolving brush; and I hear that the DC56 is problematic with tile floors that have grooves in them. A real floor brush on these models would be so much better; at least if there was the option. And then all the other attachments that could be so useful. But apparently the handhelds have a different fitting for tools than the uprights and canisters. Quite unfortunate.

Well in the UK

I thought they all were the same size? I know that on the cylinder cleaners Dyson has used many different fitments over the years, but over here has finally settled on a new clip-type which was standard for all new uprights, cylinder, and hand-helds. This includes the new articulating floor tool. Indeed here it is sold as a spare part with an adapter to fit all Dyson cleaners.

Dyson have confirmed that the Dyson Hard tool cannot be used on the DC35, DC55 and DC59 motorised brushbar/carbon fibre models because the user would use the vac with pressure which results in damaged prons.
