So I've been using my new Panasonic MC-CG902 canister and have loved it so far! Well today I decided to open the lid and see how full the bag was since I had been using it everyday since It came via UPS last week. When I looked inside to my horror the bag wasn't seated right into the little red slot and dust/dirt had been filling the bag chamber!!! I just got done cleaning out the machine and the pre motor filter since it was COVERED in dust and installed a new Kenmore type c vacuum bag. I plan on switching to HEPA bags, but the nearest Sears store is 45 minutes from me and I haven't had a chance to get over there yet. I just can't believe this happened!!! I sure hope this doesn't shorten the motors life since it obviously took in some amount of dirt because there was sand in the post motor filter....Sigh. I'll upload pictures once my camera is done charging.

Air Compressor!

Do you have an air compressor. You could take the machine apart and blow it out with air compressor just to ensure that its all clean inside.

You can also order bags online and have them shipped. Do you have Amazon Prime? You can get free shipping via Amazon Prime or some other websites. The Kenmore Q's work well but you can find generic HEPA material Q bags from other manufacturers online. Search Amazon, Price Grabber, Discountcleaningproducts.com, Govacuum, all sorts of sites out there. Also since Kmart and Sears are the same company you may find bags at the same line of vacuum bags at Kmart too!!

If you use the air compressor to blow out the machine-be sure to do it outside or the garage!Another canister vac set to the blower mode is more gentle and just as effective. One vac place I helpted at used an old Royal canister as an "air compressor" to blow dry Electrolux fans and parts after washing- worked GREAT!If you use the other vac as a blower-again try to do it outside or the garage. The dust blown loose makes a mess!Sorry this happened in your new machine-was the bag installed at the factory?Maybe the shipping jarred the bag connector loose.-causing it to leak.Wearing a nose protector is another good idea, too!

UGH!

Sean,
Check my thread out "Panasonic Arrived". The SAME thing happened to mine on the FIRST use. I wish I had taken pictures as the bag compartment was covered with dust and also the Pre-motor filter.
I DID use the Expensive Hepa Kenmore bags with the SAME results.
I took mine back for refund as I have read other members have had the same problem with the Sears/Panasonic machines.
Too bad because I liked the machine.
I don't think the bag was leaking. I think the problem is like the reports of the new Aerus canister-something about the bag collar is not seating correctly.
I can't be good for the motor and I was not about to put up with a leaking vacuum.
It's a shame.

The bag mount used on these Panasonic and Kenmore machines can be a problem. I think the design would be better if the end of the hose went into the bag. If you look, the bag does not have a rubber seal on the collar. All that seals it to the hose is the foam gasket on the mount. On my new Kenmore Progressive, I have noticed not much dust is in the compartment or pre filter, and I don't use the HEPA bags, just the microlined C bags. So maybe they improved a bit on the newer models.

Also, just in case, check the bag over to make sure it doesn't have any holes or tears. I had that happen once and didn't notice it because it was on the bottom of the bag. Much less dust leaking after I put in a new bag.

VERY STRANGE!!!

I've never heard anything like this before!!! It works well to remove hose prior to bag changing. Kenmore/ Panasonic machines have used the same bag latch system for years. Should be type 5055 C or Q bag. Push all of the way in so that it clicks in. The HEPA bags are so big so need to ensure that prior to shutting door that entire bag is well below the rim. Ensure bag door makes a good sealing audible lock when shut. Then reinstall hose!!

Did it look like the bag collar was mis-shapen where hose is possibly hitting cardboard and not going into bag? Generally I've used the yellow paper style with bags, and NEVER had a problem!!

Update!

Sorry I haven't had a chance to upload the pictures yet, but changing the bag to genuine Kenmore type-C bags seems to have solved my problem completely. The Kenmore C bags seem to fit a lot more snug allowing the bag to seal properly. I still absolutely love the cleaner! I have a very nice floor brush from Amazon.com that works wonderful on my hardwood floors, I also love the power head on this machine!
