Just wanted to know if anyone has any thoughts on how to remove a furniture guard from a base on a Hoover? I am in the process of restoring my model 64 citation and need to strip and repaint the base and handle. The furniture guard is rivited on at least that is what looks like holding on the rubber guard. I don't want to damage the guard just take it off for painting and reattach when I finish. My second option was to try to cover the guard in painters tape? I really want to remove it to give the base a new coat of paint. Any help would be appriciated.

REMOVE THE BUMPER ! I tried myself without taking it out and you can' t possibly do a good job ! The other guy said wrigth : no new rivets ( the rubber could brake ) but flat headed screws paited the matching color ! Remember the transparent finish after thepaint in order to avoid scratches on your newly done job !

so to speak. spread the bumper from the base, the far enough that u can cut the rivets with a pair of dykes... |
