At work we just got a new Shop Vac. It's a 14 Gallon blue model. The old one was a yellow and black Shop Vac Quiet Series 14 Gallon. I'm not sure how old it was, but I'd say it was over ten years old.

The reason the old one got replaced is it finally wore out last week. It had been making odd noises for a while. One day I went to use it, and it kept getting quieter and weaker by the minute. Suddenly it was so quiet you had to put your ear up to it to hear the motor. Then it just stopped completely.

I have to say the new model seems to be much better than the old one. They have really improved in every way that I can see. To start, the unit is a lot quieter to my ears, the noise is much lower in pitch. The bag holder can be removed unlike the old one. It looks like the bags will be much easier to change also. The old one had a smaller opening at the top, which caused the bags to almost always rip open, whereas the new model has a lid that covers the entire tank. The wheels on the new one have metal brackets, the ones were all plastic.

Finally the hose on the new one is much bigger in diameter than the old one, which always got clogged.

So in this case, I would say this new model is actually a big improvement over the old, which I know isn't often the case with new vacuums!
