I'm not completely sure. I think there are folks here who've rebuilt those motors before, though.

If the bearings can't be re-packed, it's probably possible to get a new motor. That power nozzle was produced in various forms for a long time, at least through the Tristar DXL, and the nozzle on the Fairfax and most 80s Eurekas was essentially the same.

First you need to decide whether the noise is in the brush roll or the motor? Remove the belt and grab the pulley on the end of the brush roll and see if there is any play in the bearing? The pulley should not move forward or back ward when you grab it. If the pulley seems tight, then I would check the motor bearing, look at the brass bearing on the opposite end of where the shaft that the belt goes on, the bearing on the shaft end is ball bearing, there usually good unless it gets wet or someone sprays WD 40 or oil in them, they are sealed and not supposed to be lubricated, check the opposite brass bearing and look at the motor shaft in the center, make sure the shaft is shiny silver and not a bluish color, if it is blue that is an indication the bearing went bad and has heated the steel shaft causing it to loose its temper, the steel is now weakened and if you put another bearing on it, it will be a short matter of time the bearing will go again. Those motors are very reasonable, you can get a new one cheap, probably less than the brush roll. Good luck with your finds, if you have any questions feel free to contact me.

If you can't find a perfect match, the power nozzle for the Tristar CXL and DXL is nearly identical to the Compact C9 one, which makes sense, since the Tristar CXL more or less is a Compact C9 with cosmetic changes.

I'm not sure how similar the Fairfax and Eureka Power Team/Ironsides power nozzles are. The designs are *very* close but details may differ enough to prevent connection.

It sounds like the motor is bad, order a new one and change it, it's only 2 screws and 2 wires.
