I'm not trying to be smart, or start anything, but you could buy a brand new Hoover (made in China) from China-Mart and use IT for a planter. Put that bag into the Air-Way and use IT as a vacuum cleaner. It will perform better than a brand new Hoover any day of the week. The Air-Way was one of the best vacuum cleaners, if not THE best canister vacuum, ever made.

You play nice now here on Vacuumland!! That remark about the Air-Way outperforming a new Hoover is being a bit dramatic.
And fact of the matter is, the newest Hoover multi-cyclonic canisters released in the past 3 years would probably match the Air-Way's performance! Not only would the suction be the same (or pretty darn close), but the advantage of having a modern PN & being multi-cyclonic with no loss of suction, combined with a washable HEPA filter, would give the Hoover canisters the edge in the minds of most consumers these days. Plus, let's not forget this lady is trying to SELL THE AIR-WAY, not keep it! It's pretty obvious she knows she prefers modern vacuums, & sees the value of a collector holding onto a piece of history, rather than abuse & wreck it. So kindly back off, & keep your sarcastic negative remarks to yourself! We DON'T need any of this BS on here.... Rob |

This thread brings back many memories. My grandmother had a Model 66 Airway and as a child I remember the Model 55's sitting in many yards being used a planters. It seemed that when the new model came out door to door salesman would convince people to upgrade. Many of the model 55's ended up being flower pots. A person down the street from us had one on each side of her porch steps with a geranium and vine. They were actually quite stunning! We had one in our backyard. Dad brought it home from the dump one Saturday and grandma quickly found a pot and planted a flower inside.

Today is September 24th, my Birthday. I love Hoovers, but the China ones don't have the passion built into them of the old North Canton ones. I have 8 Hoovers in my house. The newer ones work well, but build quality compared to this Air-Way and we're talking about 2 DIFFERENT BALLPARKS!! I see nothing wrong with a little sarcasm and actually found Tom's comment funny! Actually some of the newer styled machines with all of the crazy new colors they produce nowadays might actually look really neat as a planter.
I agree with Tom, calm down Kirbylux77! Thank you Polly for seeking out Vacuumland and offering your parts for sale. As you can see there are a lot of knowledgable people on here with information on this stuff. Tom Gasko directs a museum and is one of the most knowledgable people on the entire history of vacuums! |
