Last week was a great day for finding vacuums! Last Saturday I went to my local flea market and left with something small but good for vacuuming out cars: a Euro-Pro Ultra Shark hand vac. I got it for $5 and I was happy with that because with school starting, I don't really have anytime to look for vacs around my area. Also with the Ultra Shark I got the original box, all the attachments and the original manual.
But things just kept getting better! The day after I got the Ultra Shark, I was driving with my grandmother (the same one who helped me get the Dirt Devil Ultra Vision) to Walgreens and on the way I saw a garage sale, probably like all vacuum collectors if I see a garage sale I would look to see if there were any vacuums for sale, and doing that payed off because sitting next to a table was an Oreck XL 40th anniversary edition! When I saw the handle and outer bag, I nearly died! But by the time I noticed it, we already passed it and my grandmother wouldn't turn around. When I asked her if we could stop on the way back, she said no because it was on the opposite side of the road.
When I returned to my grandmas house, I called my mom and told her about what I saw, she said that she would pick me up and we could go see how much it was. Like past situations I was in, I thought that the seller was thinking that this vacuum was worth a million dollars and would sell it like for $50 or $80, but was I wrong, when I got to the garage sale with my mom, I asked the man who was selling it how much it was, he said $20! I was so happy, I handed him the $20 and loaded it up into my moms car. The man who was selling it said that it was his daughter's and she didn't want it anymore and I could see why.
When I brought it home, I looked at it and inspected it, the cord was frayed in two different spots, my dad helped me elctrical tape them. That problem was fixed but the more serious problem was that there was dust mites all inside the vacuum! Luckily my dad went out to the local hardware store and purchased spray to kill them. After huge spa week, the vacuum is now clean and part of my oreck clan (7 Orecks) below is a picture of all my Orecks and the Ultra Shark and the before and after picture of my new Oreck. Did you have any situations like mine? The second picture of the oreck with the bag twisted sideways is the way I purchased it. Oreck models I have: XL3800, XL3700, XL3600, XL2450, XL9200C, XL9100C, XL3120

Congrats on your new Oreck find and nice looking Oreck collection! It's also great that you have such a supportive family, as that's not always the case. Hope your collection continues to grow, maybe with an Oreck XL21? If you have any Kirby/Rainbow/Filter Queen dealers around, you might check with them to see what they'd do for you on any of their trade-ins.

Be careful with that Shark,

super-sweeper's profile picture

Those handles are flimsy, And tend to snap at the Switch!

I have the same model, Box and all, But rarely use it due to small capacity, handle issue and quick suction loss.
