Did it have the headlight cap with the lock on it?
If so, that meant it originally came with the speed switch inside the headlight cap. It was notorious for its high failure rate, going by the fact many owners didn't know what to make of it when it was brand new back in the summer of 1979. Some users jammed the headlight cap to the point where the speed switch remained stuck on high speed, prematurely damaging the motor internals. Kirby quickly advised its dealers at the time to get this batch of Traditions converted to the speed switch on the fan case below the intake opening, just below the nozzle attaching shaft. ~Ben |
