Here are some photos of the Electrolux Deluxe Special that I found at an estate sale a couple of weeks ago. I had posted about it hoping to find a matching brown cord halo and replacement non-cord-winder version of the ivory cord. The cord winder is wonky and I'd rather just replace it with a halo. I will keep the original cord winder, of course.

I had never really gotten a good close look at this model before and it's really quite lovely in a utilitarian way, as most of the Electrolux economy models have been.

It's really in nice condition. All it required was a very casual going-over with some Windex and spray polish. The hose is a mess, as you can see. I'll put together a replacement coiled hose for actual use and will save the original hose for display. Curiously, the attachment that seemed to get the most use was the crevice tool! It's pretty scratched up on the end.

The bag chamber is spotless which is not surprising since apparently the previous owners used genuine Electrolux bags -- eight of them were tucked down into the box with the machine.

There's no instruction manual (would love to have one!), just a sheet showing how to assemble the power nozzle* on one side and an advert for the contemporaneous deluxe model, the Olympia -- so-named in honor of the 1984 Olympics for which Electrolux was a big corporate sponsor and 1984 was the year these two models were introduced. There's also a matching chocolate-brown B8 scrubber-shampooer (and probably an air-powered turbo scrubber but I've never seen one).

---
* surely just left behind as a sales enticement since this specimen did not come with a power nozzle -- just the basic cleaning tools and non-electric hose

Was there a model L in matching brown Olympia One?

The Olympia came out around 1978-79.

Where do you store the crevice tool on this model?

A correction on the launch date of the Olympia & matching special -- it was 1978, and the company was a sponsor of the 1980 Olympics, not 1984. Excuse brain damage...

I didn't know much about these models either until getting this one.

I have figured out that the "Special" model had a cord halo and the "Deluxe Special" had a cord winder.

I did some sleuthing on eBay and found several different variations:

Special - Olympia Era
eBay Auction No. 251301231531

Deluxe Special - Silverado Era
eBay Auction No. 281164390924

Special - Silverado Era (note this has a replacement cord that's the one I'm looking for!!)
eBay Auction No. 290970060613

Special - Grand Marquis / Legacy / Ultralux Era
eBay Auction No. 171118774133

Electrolux special

Great example of a great standard Elux in the tradition of the Model L(there was no brown L unless as a rebuilt at time of Olympia). There was a brown rug washer. The Olympia was named for the winter olympics in New York state. The first owners manual had a drawing of vac,not photo, and I seem to recall it as a folder without staples. This was a repack for whatever reason. The service mgr may have had a good vac with a beat up box or a repo with no box as Elux financed and used another box with new serial no written on.There was no storage for crevice tool.DELUXE meant with electric hose and power nozzle and extra wands. Some wood floor homes would still want a 'plain' vac.In early 80s there was a sale on Specials at $299 with power nozzle and $199 without. This was at a time when the Olympia was at least $429.Even though the cordwinder is almost the same as the automatic Elux it did not always work quite as well. The cordwinder was a 'T Trade'item meaning that you add the price of the CW and if the customer trades an old vac you allow that much for the trade. The salesman got full commission and the customer got a 'free' CW.The hose and attachments were the same as the Automatic Elux(as were the factory rebuilds).A very good value with no chrome, automatic door or standard cordwinder. It was also easier to roll around being lower to the floor but harder to wind cord on wrap for same reason.Enjoy and Happy Vacuuming!
Charles,I should be able to find cord wrap but a good standard cord is more difficult to come by.,Jimmy

To Floor o matic

There was no Model L that came out with the Olympia One. The Special Model made it's debut at the time. The Deluxe Special came out with elctric hose, P/N 4 and all the other attachments. As was stated the cord reel was used as a "T' trade item.It would cost $50.00 otherwise as an option. Silverado color and Diamond Jubilee color on the last Special.Motors used 1205 Armatures. Model replaced with the Model LE.
