Hi all, here is my "new to me" Hoover Senior that my mum and dad bought me as a birthday present, quite an early one as my birthday isn't until the 29th September, but I spotted it on eBay and couldn't pass it up as it was in excellent condition for it's age and was a steal at £36!

I am not sure on the exact date of this machine as it was before they used the serial number dating system, but I am hoping someone might be able to date it for me with a picture I took of a number stamped into the casting underneath. I think this is from the mid to late 60's, anyway.

All I had to do to this when I got it was give it a good clean, wash the bag, replace the brush strips, belt and inner bag and it was good to go, motor ran great first time! I did take the motor apart and clean it, however.

So like I usually do, I will post a few before pictures and then some after pictures, here she is...

Very nice indeed! You have done a fantastic job at cleaning that up.

I think Alistair should be able to help you with the dating of this machine as he knows the "J" serial numbers.

Such a nice machine, appears to be well cared for and it sure cleaned up nice!

I love how easily serviceable the old hoovers are.

Can't beat that for a birthday present, btw my birthday is the 27th of September.

Also quite intersting our birthdays are quite close togther! ;)

I love the Senior, I can see why they were popular in the states, simplicty of use and nice and wide for large areas of carpet. :)

Indeed

And I can see why the junior was so popular in the UK. All the power, with easier handling and a smaller footprint. Personally I love them both!

I have 400, give or take, most likely a few more. They just multiply.

I'm getting rid of about 50 machines...but they're not from the "collection'. ALL of the vacuums (not of my species) are going from the basement in addition to some HOOVERS of which I have 3,4,5,of the same model. It will give me a bit of room to "breathe".
