Good evening fellow Vacuum Cleaner Enthusiasts, This little Groovy Canister has been sitting lonely at a Thrift Shop nearby since the 5th of August, 2013. It's Avocado Green with Wood Grain paneling,Does it get more 1970s than THAT?

Anyhow, I decided (Especially when I found the "Perk" of Purchasing) That this Groovy thing shall sit no longer, And come home to it's modern cousins and Ancient Ancestors, To a house that many sweepers now call Home, To the house where a Crazy Man runs around with Zipp Brushes and Crevice Tools, LOL Laughing

So off to said house it went, And to the Kirby store it followed, As I checked on a "Certain Project" (Hint, Hint!), Than finally to the Work Shop it arrived, And was powered on to relive it's Rockin' Groovy Lifestyle.

That LifeStyle, However, Came up short. Instead of a the Bliss tones of Whirring Delight, I was welcomed by a screechy startup, followed by the usual rough motor noises. With It's Auntie Singer of similar (Likely younger Laughing) Vintage sitting in the Attic after it's incident on the covered porch, I knew what those sounds meant, For those where the Tones of Impending DOOM!

Fortunately for "Auntie Singer", A replacement motor has been located at the local Kirby Distributor, Sitting in front of the horde of Modern and Vintage Hoovers, Eurekas and Attachments Galore (I'm not even going to mention how many rooms are CRAMMED with Kirbies!). In this DuoPower's Case, I'm likely to tear this thing apart, And hope that all it needs it some Tender Love & OIL to get back to it's Disco of Household Sanitation.

This little Groovster was likely one held onto for many years, cherished by the same owner for the past 40 Years, With the "Box Of Goodies (Hint X2) sitting on a closet shelf, While the DuoPower ran it's routine faithfully, Until the day it's replacement arrived, All shiny and modern, With plastic and cool "Turbo" What-Nots, And sent to the Donation area for fate to judge. Thankfully, Fate was faithful, as that DuoPower sat for weeks, until I finally decided I was the One.

-Alex.

One great machine.

One of the best vacuums on the market at the time.

Love that wood grain matching power nozzle. I have a duo-power woodgrain but it must be an older one or BOL because it has this cheap loud pn, original though.

Well, I peeked into that Motor,

And found a section of the Armature is burnt (A very small section right below where the carbon brushes make contact).

Is this the end of my Faithful Kenmore? Or is there still a hope to save this vacuum?

It's the same motor used in Filter Queens for years. Lamb motors are very common. You should have NO problem swapping out that motor for another Lamb. Would take less than five minutes.

Hooray!

There's a bunch of Filter-Queens at that Kirby store, Did they use the motor up to the Majestic?

I'm almost certain my parents owned this same vacuum when I was very young.

What Filter-Queen models share the same motor as the DuoPowe

Could anyone provide a list? I'd hate to buy the wrong model and be stuck with it.

Nice find. That is one of the vacuums at the top of my list, I keep looking, but so far one hasn't turned up. I think that may be a Canadian model because the woodgrain has a burled pattern, whereas others had a regular grain to them. Not sure though.

I hope you can find a new motor for it.

Re motor

Any two speed Lamb will fit.

Any Two Speed Lamb Motor will work, provided it has five colored wires. Black, red, yellow, blue, white. Interstate used a four wire, 2 speed lamb motor, and it will not interchange.

Look for any two speed filter queen where the 2 speed switch is separate from the on/off switch (in other words, a 2 speed Queen with a foot pedal on/off switch). The motors will interchange.
