My new Royal upright came in today wanted to share some pictures. I am really happy with the condition minus the bag it is shot. Has a really nice sound very quit I was very surprised by that. The acc and box are. Nice but I am missing one wand. Also has the instruction sheet.

The bag looks horrible and is torn in two places.

It's a nice machine but I am going to need a new bag to make it a daily driver. If anyone has a bag they are willing to sell let me know. I want to put a none shakeout bag on it. I would also be willing to swap this one for a newer royal upright. I really like the light blue ones from the seventys and eightys. I hope everyone enjoys the pictures. Oh and isn't it amazing that they could make these vacation use so little power and still deep clean so well. 300 watts is nothing.

This proves..

All the hoopla about amps is bull, A filter Queen pulls about 7 or 8 and has much more power than most of the 12 amp machines, its all in the design, and these old Royals are great!

Very true

I am learning that power consumed is not nearly as important as other things such as brushrolls. A good brush and head design goes a long ways. But it is all a but specs with the new machines. I am still in aww of how this big metal machine purrs so softly. My hoover convertable sounds like a dump truck compared to this Royal.

Zach,

I wonder how this 153S would stack up against a typical 1980s Royal with the 4.5, 5.4 or 6 amp motors? With all this discussion going on about amperage...

I think

These are better, just because of the base plate design,I have a 78 model 880, that is darn near new in the box, and I dont like it nearly as much as I do my 58 model 801, also the newer ones have wide wheels which make them track sideways, I like the narrow wheels much better.

Hans,

My 1985 Stark-branded 880 also has those wider front wheels you mention, but unlike yours the motor size on mine is 4.5 amps.

Bag of cats!!!!

It sounds much better than a bag of cats but now that you mention it there is a hi pitch tone in its so g maybe some are louder than others.

If would love a new bag if you find it kirbykid.

I am going to try to patch up the big on it a little so I can give it a test run. I don't think it will run across the room with the brushroll that is on it now but I really want to see what 300 watts will do. It should beat my dial a matic hands down.

Zach,

I also want to remind you that, for the sake of collecting value, the bag on your machine may not match up with the belt cover. Why? The original shake-out bag should have the same graphics as the nozzle cover.

If I were you I would repair & keep the bag that's on it, as appears to be the original bag. As for the tools, I agree, they look like they're in fine condition. However, I don't think you're missing a wand. In the early to mid 50's Royal sold an economy attachment set and a deluxe set. The economy set had just what you have there--hose with adapter, one wand, dust brush, crevice tool, and upholstery tool. The deluxe set also had a second wand, floor brush, and a caddy instead of a box.
