If the belt isn't the cause of your troubles, before you throw the brushroll away try removing the end-caps & see if any hair or string is built up around there. That is what will cause a brush not to turn & ruin your bearings. That, & a bit of 3 in 1 oil will probably restore your brushroll to good working order. And of course, make sure you check your brushroll for strings, threads & hair after every vacuuming session, & check the endcaps once a month for buildup.
