Hi all this is my first post to this forum though I have been a regular reader for years. I am currently bidding on a royal 153s on eBay and I was wondering if any body knows if this one would have a shakeout bag or a disposable bag. The bag is red and black and it comes with a set of tool that are black with a black hose that has a red strip. I posted a picture of its tag below. I am trying to figure out if I should bid up on it. I really don't want a shake out bag. If it does have a shake out bag can it be converted to a disposable or would I be. Or would I be better suited to bid on a later blue 880. Any and all help would be great I have collected canisters for years and have only come to like uprights recently when I inherited my uncles hoover dial a matic he got as a wedding present in 1963. My parents had a kirby when I was a kid and I loved how it cleaned but not so much the bulky nature of it. Many of you have commented on how the royals do a good job like a kirby so I have been hunting for one with tools on eBay.

The 153 most likely has a shakeout bag unless it has been replaced. However, generic replacement bags are available for use with disposables, for around $20.00 if I'm not mistaken. This model had a long run, from 1945 to 1987. The one you're considering bidding on is from the early 50's and may be somewhat rare, as it says Royal Vacuum Cleaner Co. on the plate, and the company only had this name for a couple years. Before that, it was the P.A. Geier Co., and after it was the Royal Appliance Mfg. Co.So go for it, and good luck.
Jeff

I went for It and won

I bid on it and won. I will post pictures of it and the acc when they arrive. It even has the cardboard box for the acc with it and some documentation not sure if it is a manual or a leaflet will see when it arrives. I am sure now that it is a shake out bag (no zipper). I should have known better.

Jeff I see a lot of post about Royal from you you must be a big fan I am Hoping to fall in love with this one. I will have to get a new bag the red and black bag with the Royal logo looks really sharp but my allergys make it hard to live with a shakeout bag.

Thanks for the great background Jeff!!

Now the work starts

Thanks Ben

Now the real work starts clean/restore this will be a daily driver. The hose is cloth covered so I am thinking rubber and not useable even thought in pictures looked new. Will see when it comes in the mail. Need to find a new bag. If anyone has a red/black bag that take a disposable bag for sale I would be very interested. I will post lots of pics of this new find when it arrives
