Hi, all. Just discovered this forum here a few weeks ago. I've been fascinated by vacuums for as long as I can remember.
My interest got rekindled here recently when the vacuum I was using - a Kenmore Progressive canister - let out the magic smoke, and I happened to notice I could get a Filter Queen on eBay for less than another new Kenmore would cost me. Granted, it was used, and needed a bit of work (the PN was jacked up and the baffle filter was filthy, and one of the electric pigtails was missing), but it was an FQ and it worked. I could consider it the first part of a new sorta-collection, since I'm now looking at a used Silver King for my workshop and maybe a TriStar or another FQ to put upstairs.
However, while reading threads here, I noticed two things - someone once said you could put a Filter Queen motor into a Compact or TriStar, and someone else said there was a 10.5A motor with higher airflow available that would fit into a TriStar. So that got me thinking - would it fit into a Filter Queen, too? Also, I noticed that folks don't seem to think the FQ's power nozzle is much good. Which leads to two questions:
1) Can the Ametek Lamb 10.5A motor fit into an FQ, and if so, is it worth doing?
2) Which power nozzle would be a good choice for a house with longhaired people and fuzz-dispensing kitties? Wessel Werk, Eureka, Sebo, Lindhaus, Centec? Maybe find a Riccar PN?
