This is my only Kirby, the Classic Omega. It's currently being restored. Does anyone know how to put a belt on? I can't figure out how to.

Can you believe that "I" can?????

I had to use an Omega when I was at St. John's.
Others might have a better description, but:
put the belt on the agitator. With your fingers, (I HATED doing this)feed the belt up so you could see it.
There is a belt lifter .Turn it to 'catch ' the belt, and position it on the pulley spindle. This, and emptying that bag were horrible tasks for me. I considered it 'penance', at the time.

To change the belt...

First, disconnect the nozzle from the Kirby. Turn the belt lifter until it says "Belt is ON" at the bottom. Turn the nozzle upside down and pull on the front of the rug plate (side under the belt lifter). It is hinged, so it won't come off the whole way. Slightly bend one end of the rug plate bar and pull out the brush roll. Slip a new belt onto the brush roll and put it back in, making sure the screw heads on the brush roll ends are facing the bottom of the rug plate. Bend the attaching bar back into place, and pop the rug plate back into the nozzle. Turn the belt lifter counter-clockwise until it says "Belt is OFF" on the side, making sure the Magic Finger in the nozzle catches the belt. Place it back on the Kirby, turn the lifter back to ON, and you're ready to go!

The Kirby belt is the soft grey belt, part number 159056.

Belt

Ben, when i got it, there was no belt on it. It had not been used in 15 years. The belt i bought is a number 301289. i think it is the wrong belt, i am not sure.

Ty,

That belt you mention (301289) is normally used with the Kirby Miracle Head and Rug Renovator, but it may fare better than the original soft belt (159056) when used with double-bristle, ball-bearing brush rolls (152581, 152584, 156288, et al) on all Kirby models prior to the Generation 3.
